WASHINGTON (AP) — Verizon and AT&T have rejected a request by the U.S. government to delay the rollout of next-generation wireless technology.

A joint letter Sunday from the telecommunications giants to U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Steve Dickson, the head of the Federal Aviation Administration, sought to dismiss concerns brought by U.S. airlines that a new 5G wireless service could harm aviation.

But Hans Vestberg, CEO of Verizon Communications, and John Stankey, CEO of AT&T, also wrote that they were willing to accept some temporary measures over the next six months to limit the service around certain airport runways.

Airlines had asked the Federal Communications Commission to delay this week’s scheduled 5G rollout...

So these major corporations are going to go ahead anyway? Don’t they know how RECKLESS it is to proceed without official government sanction? Or even with it? < /sarcasm >

Actually, they agreed to wait two weeks. Not sure this is anything but symbolic but the OP missed the news.

If course the airlines believe it could mess up the avionics of planes so.......

They’ve been planning this rollout for YEARS. What could they possibly get done in two weeks that would make 5G safer for aviation issues?

My understanding is;

Whoever first implements 5G gets to set industry standards. Further delays allow China to become the standard setter.

Suspicions that this is a kiss to Xi, or perhaps a dictate from Xi to Biden.

Samsung S20’s are G5 compliant. I wonder if lobbyists/Congressional inside traders were cut out of the G5 payola scheme. Hence the legislative induced marketing stall. Apparently the infrastructure is in place.

“What could they possibly get done in two weeks that would make 5G safer for aviation issues?”

I read articles on this subject hoping to learn some detail on the technical problem. The problem of over-the-air radio signals interfering with each other and how to avoid the interference has been with us for many years. What could have gone unnoticed here? Why is 5G deployed around airports in Europe with no complaints or problems?

We aren’t being told the whole story. Makes me think there’s a political angle.

Have you done the analysis of the antenna patterns? Do you know the EIRP of the tower transmitters on C-band? Do you know the received sensitivity of the transponders on the aircraft? Have you done the link budget analysis? Why don’t they just publish the data and let people decide? There are enough RF engineers in the United States that are not on the take from either the federal government or the cell phone companies.

Do you have knowledge of the RAN? Likely
they are claiming the phones are 5G compliant because 4G LTE is part of the 5G standard, but on the same frequencies as 4G. My bet is it does not support C-band or 28 GHz.

Covid and the jabs aren’t killing off the population quick enough. Bring on planes falling out of the air and brain tumors.

There is no technical problem.
This is all about China getting worldwide control of 5G.

Two weeks will allow the people who are being silly in the pointless paranoia to move on. 5G is near airports all over the world. And since wireless routers now include 5G there’s probably already 5G in and around many of our airports already.

“There is no technical problem”

Interesting.

How does anyone get worldwide control of 5G. Isn’t it just equipment? Can’t anyone make it and compete with other makers?
