With the turn of the calendar to 2022, Republicans are not only looking to the 2022 midterm elections but to the prospect of Donald Trump running in 2024. Trump is hugely popular with the party’s base and that popularity freezes the plans of other possible candidates for the 2024 nomination. Trump’s hold on that nomination is brittle, however, because of his age. On election day in 2024 Donald Trump will be 78 years old. That is one year older than Ronald Reagan’s age when he left office in 1988.
Looking at the 2024 contest from the other side of the race, there is no reason to expect that Joe Biden will get the nomination. He has been in office for less than one year, and only diehard Democrats believe that he is not suffering from incapacitating mental deficits. The only question is which foreign adversary will take advantage of his weakness: China, Russia or Iran. So the most likely scenario is for Biden’s resignation in 2022 or early 2023.
Trump may be popular now, but once the voters have been shocked by the disaster of one septuagenarian president why would they roll the dice on a 78-year-old Donald Trump holding office to age 82? It’s a very bad bet, especially when there are younger, capable Republicans available. Ron DeSantis is at the top of the list of strong candidates for the presidency, but by 2023 we should have other governors and several senators eager to reach for the nomination.
I believe the above makes a strong case that it would be unwise for Donald Trump to run for the presidency in 2024. That presents the big question: how to persuade Trump to play the role of “kingmaker” in late 2022 and step back from his own candidacy?

The vaccine was a mistake. … but by that time, Trump had already handed over the presidency to Fauci and he seemed to believe everything Fauci said. I think he genuinely believed that this would be a solution, and I recall that everything Trump suggested independently (such as therapeutics, etc) was ridiculed and rejected by Fauci and the media (who appear to be the ones really running the country). I also think he wanted to reopen the country after the ill advised two weeks - but he caved to Fauci, who by then had come to see how useful the destruction of American life would be to the Dems).
I wish Trump had fought back harder.
What dumb question.
Who he picks as VP could be interesting.
He has advantage this time because now he knows who most of the traitors are.
Most of the establishment did nothing to support him and many did worse.
I go back to what has been said in the past. Dismantle, and or neuter a many departments within federal government..or we are on a death spiral..with little chance.
Trump should run for office.
He’s the only person capable of stopping the runaway inflation that’s sitting out there in our future.
One can only hope that Trump decides to run again.
I also cringe at the prospect of voting for him, but I will if I must.
This articles writer can go pound salt... more Gloabalist/uniparty/GOPE/RINO nonsense....
MAGA IS AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN BIGGER THAN TRUMP!!! Trump doesn’t need to step aside for it to be bigger... This is the establishment trying to wrestle MAGA into its clutches, nothing more.
Trump wants to run, he has the nomination and they KNOW IT.. that is why they are going to keep pushing in every way possible to keep him from doing it... This is shameful and nonsensical.
MAGA has never been “about Trump” and that’s why it scares them.
You literally STOLE an election, and it’s still not enough.... and never will be.
No one can beat Trump, and they know it....
F no. He’s too old. We don’t need anymore 80 year-old presidents. But I will vote for him if he’s the nom. Reluctantly
I’d laugh if Trump announces his run for President on January 6th.
Does that even make sense?
The guy who wrote this piece is using liberal 'full ditz' logic...
You're right Gaffer - the whole article to designed to pooh-pooh Trump running. And did you notice Patrick J. Gibbs also craftily nixed DeSantis? I'm betting a liberal or a NeverTrumper has snuck into American Thinker...
Trump was cheated out of his second term—He must have it as a reward for the crap he had to endure. They will do all they can to stop him—even, I believe, assassination and Civil War.
What if he wants Justice? What if he would like Crooks to go to jail? Lots of folks will be in court—No, he must be stopped. DeSantis is good as a “Stop Trump” token—But once Trump is gone he will face a storm of charges, lies and Hate. No, he will be displaced quick. The new person will be a hack—a Mitt Romney Republican —Talk big but act like a Progressive. Another Bush. BUT—A lot can happen in 3 years.
Re: 10 - Good post. Thanks.
Really - please tell us more!!!!
The last election was stolen from President Trump. His winning a resounding victory in 2024 is the only way to redeem our democracy. I won’t vote for anyone else. Furthermore, I won’t ever again vote for anyone who runs against him in 2024. Opposing the restoration of our democracy is a permanent disqualification for future office.
Trump has a track record of success and has now exposed much of the rot at the heart of Government. That sunshine will shrivel the evil doers, self servers, phonies and Globalists. Trump’s next term will be his best term.

Well said, Jay. I believe the steal in 2020 may be a blessing in disguise. Americans have been cheated out of their votes and it can’t stand. And the crime was done by the combined strategy of Leftists and RINOs like Mitch McConnell and Brian the unKempt Dominator of Georgia.
Now MAGA will come back stronger than ever. We are learning the lesson: one strong and intelligent patriot, Trump, cannot be in power forever. We must learn to seize the bull by the horns ourselves. We must learn how to clean up our elections. Putting the pressure on politicians is crucial. Most have been corrupted anyway.
Bidung and the Lefties commanding him
Frankly, unbelievable the question was actually asked.
Of course he should run. He, the most effective leader this
nation has seen in this lifetime. A leader who treats citizens as equal partners, not subjects. A leader who makes good
on the promises made on the campaign trail. A leader who loves this nation. What’s not to like? That the man is a mover and a shaker causes heart palpitations in our “friends
across the isle” for they have never seen anything like this
before and are completely oblivious as to how to “correct”
their setback and complete their move forward.

Well said, V.K. The corrupt RINOs are having a fit. They realize if Trump gets reelected their gravy train is over. The Uniparty full-exposed will tailspin and crash.
hehehe :-) It’s good to see comeuppance occasionally;
and we, here, can all agree, “It’s now or never”.
