Soon, Brits will own nothing and will be happier for it…
UK Government Transport Minister Trudy Harrison recently spoke at a mobility conference, addressing the future of personal mobility. In her comments, she said it was necessary to ditch the "20th-century thinking centred around private vehicle ownership and towards greater flexibility, with personal choice and low carbon shared transport." That’s right, she said the quiet part loud and showed the hand of a growing number of government officials.
Harrison went on to praise not only public transportation but also bike share services, e-scooters, and ride sharing platforms. All of these are supposed to tune down how much carbon the UK is emitting into the atmosphere. As with all choices, this comes at a cost, particularly for those living in rural areas.
What’s more, 300 residents in Coventry recently expressed interest in giving up their personal cars. The tradeoff from the government reportedly would be a mobility credit worth up to £3,000. This mobility credit program has been going since March of this year, with 73 cars turned in and crushed. No, this isn’t a joke, but I wish it were.
Understandably, many Brits are upset about this. Some have asked if they should start riding their horse instead, all the in the name of “progress.” Others are tying this statement by Harrison with the looming government ban of internal combustion engines for cars by 2030. After all, EVs aren’t exactly cheap, so what better way to force people onto public transportation than by pricing them out of the vehicle market…?

Once again, from the top…
The agenda is not to switch to Electric Vehicles. It is to switch to Zero Vehicles.
They will then have you where they want you.
Well, if their cars still use Lucas Electrical, then they will be better off.
Don’t worry, the Queen and PM will not be riding an e-scooter or bicycle.
Exceptions will be made for the elite and ruling proletariat. They have to have a way to their dacha by the lake.
They’d have to pry my dead, cold body from my 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee HEMI V8 (710hp). Ain’t happening, Limeys.
“Old Adolph gave strange speeches to funny looking people in beer halls. They meant nothing of course.”
As Rush always said: “Words mean things.”
Perhaps if we had LISTENED to what the Left was saying FOR DECADES, instead of spending all our time trying to keep up with the Jones’ (and sending our kids to public school), they wouldn’t keep winning their battles.
When I was in England a while ago, I was afraid of riding left, so I used the public transportation.
It was not particularly great, we did a lot of taxis, walking, waiting and being driven by friends.
Their pricing of train tickets there was especially horrendous.
I survived it for short time, but living like that?!
Of course, “special” people will still have their personal cars.
Some animals are more equal than others.
and it will not end there
Especially with those vicious gangs of "Keep Left" signs...
About 25 years ago I worked for a company HQ’d in England during the first internet bubble (and is no longer in business) and was my first exposure to a British owned, international company. It was company policy to provide company cars to middle management and above there in lieu of a decent salary that helped to offset the cost of petrol and insurance there which I thought was a decent trade off - my how they have fallen since then.......
Be a good zombie or your driving will end
I’m probably going to get skewered for this, but I do think that private car ownership will be eventually fade away. Not the same way it’s implied here but by social and economic realities of the future. Think about the cost of owning a car today. The purchase price, finance interest, service, etc. Add in the coming reality of self driving cars and I see a future of on autos on demand. Fire up the app and wait for your ride.
The Morgan 3-wheeler is considered a motorcycle:

After disarmament. No means of self defense or private transportation.
.
The English are edging towards a new Magna Carta...
The worldwide Left is out of control. Like the spoiled child they all are inside, they want everything they’ve ever wanted. And they want it NOW.
They will travel in private jets while you peasants and serfs are packed like sardines in a can.
I am a bicyclist, and I hate those bike-share bikes. I’d rather walk.
The scum bags in government, will say that horses drink too much water, eat too much food, and pass too much methane. 😀
LOL!
When I lived there...attempted to drive a left-handed stick.
Took up bicycling to work.
