More than 100 are deployed in a training and advisory role with Polish, US and Canadian forces. The move to shape an exit strategy follows Defence Secretary Ben Wallace saying it is "highly unlikely" UK forces will fight Russian troops on Ukrainian soil.
Satellite images from US firm Maxar Technologies have revealed a new brigade-level unit, consisting of hundreds of tanks and armoured vehicles, situated at an army base in Crimea.
Moscow has also published changes in regulations to allow military fatalities to be buried in theater rather than be repatriated to Russia.
This is widely seen as an attempt to signal that plans for a military incursion are being made, though Russia denies this. And last night it announced it was pulling back 10,000 troops from close to the Ukrainian border in a surprise move ahead of talks with the US.
However, it represents a fraction of the number still believed to be stationed in the area.

Brave Sir Robin ran away.
(”No!”)
Bravely ran away away.
(”I didn’t!”)
When danger reared it’s ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
(”I never!”)
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about
And gallantly he chickened out.
(”You’re lying!”)
Swiftly taking to his feet,
He beat a very brave retreat.
Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin!
Out of the the valley of death
Ran the one hundred.
Show of force 🤪
I suggest the British consult with the French, as they are the undisputed masters of speedy withdrawals when faced with an invasion.
“brigade-level unit, consisting of hundreds of tanks and armoured vehicles”
That’s some “brigade”!
The French took massive casualties in World War One, and held the line. I think they lost 1.5 million men. Britain lost 900,000.
A brigade is 4000 soldiers
WWI destroyed Europe. The rest has been just piling on.
But probably containing a single tank battalion of 35 - 50 tanks. That was my point.
It would take a corps-size unit to bump up against ‘200 tanks’.
They flew in the French troops to help train them...
Damn right, let’s deploy the 82nd and the 101st right now. We’ll show those damn Ruskies! Just step across that line. When we deploy the theater nukes should we just announce it after they’re in place or rattle our sabers as we fly them in?
If they plan to evacuate if Russia does anything, why are they there in the first place?
Then why are they even there in the first place?
How do you define “Europe” in that context?
Western Europe: Britain, France, Germany, all lost the best of their manhood in WWI. It manifested itself in WWII, and then of course after that, as the weakest began to take aim at what made Western Civilization great.
Just like those good old days in Stalingrad.
