The French took massive casualties in World War One, and held the line. I think they lost 1.5 million men. Britain lost 900,000.
WWI destroyed Europe. The rest has been just piling on.
Everyone has great sport about the French soldier in WWII. But in those 6 weeks, they lost more men than we did in the entire Vietnam war or Korean War.
~60,000 killed
200,000 wounded
12,000 missing
Their generals were poor, and they were outclassed by new tactics, but they were not cowards.
“The French took massive casualties in World War One”
I looked that up a while a ago...they were barely out of WW1 and the Spanish Flu when Germany started up again. Things should be looked at in context.
