Democrats are barreling toward a showdown over voting rights and changes to the Senate rules, after months of growing frustration from within the caucus.
The party is under pressure, from both outside groups and lawmakers, to pass federal election legislation as GOP-run state legislatures debate new voting rules and as the start of the 2022 midterm election is fast-approaching.
After watching Senate Republicans block election and voting bills via the filibuster, which requires 60 votes for most legislation to advance, Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) is vowing to bring the fight to a head in January.
“The Senate will consider voting rights legislation, as early as the first week back. … If Senate Republicans continue to abuse the filibuster and prevent the body from considering this bill, the Senate will then consider changes to any rules which prevent us from debating and reaching final conclusion on important legislation,” Schumer wrote in a letter to the caucus.
But forcing a vote could highlight division within the caucus, where both Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) support the 60-vote threshold. Democrats need both of them to ultimately vote to change the rules.
“We’ve got to get this done. … We are having a robust conversation,” said Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.), who has publicly and privately pushed his colleagues to be more aggressive in coming up with a plan to pass voting rights legislation.

But will they succeed?
Would the rule changes enable them to steal the 2022 election?
Steal election. Steal filibuster. Steal voters rights.
Marxist junta’s playbook.
As long as Manchin and Sinema support the filibuster, then this is going nowhere.
They nuke the filibuster and they’ll actually destroy the Republic.
These are dangerous times. Every month seems like a escalation over the previous month.
Chuck Schumer, Senator for Moscow?
I hate these people.
They’re playing it real cute...they want to do away with the filibuster.......just this once...
I’ve heard among the changes would be to ban voter ID, and mandate liberalized mail in ballot regulations. These sorts of changes would make it easier to steal an election.
I always say democrats will win eventually. Election is like game. When one side is determined not to follow rule while other side do, the side who don’t follow rule win always
With gop occupies way many counties, if they vote the way democrats did, they would have controlled 3 branches of government easily.
No, instead they still believe in vote integrity bs even at the price of losing country
Unconstitutional.
But that’s never stopped the RAT party before.
If this bill ever gets signed into law, it will lead to and result in the certain death of our Republic and all of the principles of liberty and the rule of law this country was founded upon. In truth, the USA will officially become a communist dictatorship ruled by the criminal elite, more so than it already is. It will also provide a “get out of jail free card” for every traitor in DC who is behind the communist take over of America. The DC democrats and RINOS need this bill to pass like breath not only for the millions they will loot from the huge pool of money, but also to put their criminal minds at ease and free them of worry from their crime of treason.
Anyone remember all their outrage and rants not to remove the filibuster when they were in the minority?
If Goebbels and Streicher were alive, they would write for “The Hill.”
Looking for the up-arrow button, but can’t find it. Darn.
Didn’t the Dems decide that logic was racist?
I can't imagine that any state would want to give up its oversight of its own elections.
This is clearly a single-party issue that is suicide for state legislative authority.
The filibuster rule was there to ensure that states agree to do what's best for the union, not what's best for half the union plus one. In the Senate, it has nothing to do with the proportion of the population across the states in the union (the "Senate is undemocratic" argument from radical House members).

Schumer’s last attack on the filibuster brought us several SC justices.
