LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Amid the spread of omicron and increased holiday gatherings and travel, the number of new COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles County jumped to nearly 10,000 on Friday - the highest number in 11 months.
The 9,988 new cases represents the first time since the vaccine has been publicly available that the number of daily new infections has neared the 10,000 mark. The last time it was that high was in January 2021. It represents a 20-fold increase in one month, since the number of new cases dipped below 500 in late November according to county data.

That means at a minimum 10,000 people got tested.
The more tested, the more positive results, whether legitimate or not. If the Omicron strain is mild, why demand tests.

The silver lining to the grim statistic is that, with the vaccine now widely available, the number of deaths from COVID-19 has not risen by the same level as the number of cases.The county reported 21 new deaths from COVID-19 on Friday. By comparison, in January 2021 the number of deaths routinely stayed above 200 per day.

I am not interested in the number of infections, it is a meaningless number.

This is GREAT news ... natural immunity developed from exposure to this virulent, though weak version of the Fauci Flu, is a GOOD thing ... especially in light of the fact that no effective vaccine exists yet (though Ivermectin has proven itself to be an effective therapeutic).

I am so so sick of COVID. It’s like we’re back to the beginning and nobody understands COVID. Everybody knows that just because people test positive it does not mean they are sick, let alone sick enough to go to hospital. I am not sure if the media just thinks we are stupid or they are the ones that are so stupid.
If they're still using the PCR swab tests, they're not accurate, and never have been.
Apparently no one died in the US from it yet. They said a man died in Texas, but the hospital supposedly said he did not die from covid.
Is that all tested or is that 100 tested and the rest guestimated? Because these same liars were using guestimated numbers for 2 years.

I understand if you’re 60+ years old or have an underlying condition.
But, if you’re healthy and feel a cold coming on, why run and get tested?
My wife, children, and I had a pretty bad cold two weeks ago. Took us about a week and a half to get over. I suspect it was omicron. However, we just stayed home to prevent spread, took vitamins, and took dayquil as appropriate.
We’re all fine and we didn’t run out the door to get tested.
It’s Cold & Flu season, would like to know how the numbers compare to prior years ??!!

It’s a wonder LA (and S. Cal) are not one large epidemic of virulent diseases all things considered.
I find it ironic that The Moronic Variant dominates the news there instead of the plague of rats and rat borne diseases such as typhus - as well as illegal alien borne diseases such as TB, whooping cough etc. Adding to that the irony of tens of thousands of illegal aliens brought in covid positive and just dumped there. And what about the massive homeless population? Could that be a disease problem? No matter, just wear your face diaper, that will fix everything.
They do have some skewed priorities in LA, that’s for certain.
Who cares? How many hospitalizations and deaths are all that matters.
