Feds admit tracking 33 million mobile phone devices during lockdowns (Canada)

The Public Health Agency admits it tracked 33 million mobile devices to monitor the population’s movement during lockdowns, according to Blacklock’s Reporter.

The agency says cell tower locators were used to “understand the public’s responsiveness during lockdown measures.”

“Due to the urgency of the pandemic the Agency collected and used mobility data such as cell tower location data throughout the COVID-19 response,” said agency spokesperson Mark Johnson.

“It was to help understand possible links between the movement of populations within Canada and COVID.”

The reason the directive was disclosed was, according to Johnson, to “to be open and transparent.”

However, it also comes following a federal contractors’ notice that the agency will permanently introduce cell tower tracking.

“The agency will use mobility data to describe and analyze population-level trends,” said Johnson.

“Mobility data cannot be used to track or monitor individuals.”

Not only tracked, but everything on your phone is being logged.

“Mobility data cannot be used to track or monitor individuals.”

I, for one, am relieved and assured.

Yup—that sounds “open and transparent” to me.

Bwahahahahahaha.

33 million stupid people with Location Services turned on.

Of course the truth at least on Android phones is probably that google can turn that on remotely.

I remember watching one of the Star wars first prequel movies and watching the people on the street in the city planet. I wondered to myself, in such a culture and technology, how much personal freedom would each person have?

“the agency will permanently introduce cell tower tracking.”

“Mobility data cannot be used to track or monitor individuals.”

One of these things is not like the other.
Gov.. “oh sure we are going to track everything and every one.. Except you. Trust us”.

We are going to collect, collate, break down, and micro-analyze the data. But we promise not to use any of it!

by the way.. Mrs. Citizen, why were you at this place at 8:46pm on weds? It looks like you were there for 15 minutes?

My perspective is to embrace the spirit of the subtitle of doctor strangelove: how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb.

It is what it is. And ultimately, God is in control. Evil must reach its full fruition before it is taken out.

“Mobility data cannot be used to track or monitor individuals.”

That’s a bald faced lie.

You don't need location service turned on. The phone company must know the nearest tower, antenna direction and likely also approximate distance based on signal power to connect your call. All the location service does is ask the operating system "pretty please don't pass my location to various apps on the phone."

If you are up to something where you don't want to be tracked, don't bring your phone. Even if you have a burner phone that is not linked to your name, you probably had it turned on for most of the time at your house so they can tell about where you live.
