Manchin would have backed $1.8T version of Biden spending bill: report
NYPost ^ | 12/21/2021 | Mare Moore

Sen. Joe Manchin offered to support a $1.8 trillion version of President Biden’s Build Back Better spending package that included 10 years of universal pre-K, an expansion of ObamaCare and billions to fight climate change, according to a report.

However, the proposal from Manchin (D-WV) was rejected because it did not include an expansion of the federal child tax credit that the White House has touted as greatly reducing the child poverty rate and has made a linchpin of its economic agenda, the Washington Post reported Monday.

The West Virginian’s offer was made just days before a massive falling-out between Manchin and White House officials, leading to the senator going on “Fox News Sunday” to announce he could not support the Build Back Better Act — dealing a possibly fatal blow to the legislation.

Manchin is worried about inflation but would have voted for 1.8 Trillion version?? Makes zero sense.

And isn’t the current version a 1.75 Trillion bill?

Manchin represents a state with more white people on welfare than any place on the planet outside the United Kingdom. Of course it makes sense.

Manchin is an accidental hero to opponents of this boondoggle bill. He is not against most of it; he is against SOME of it.

Manchin lives on a yacht and drives a Maserati Levante crossover. He’s also as phony as the day is long. He will sign on to $1.8 trillion +++ sometime in January 2022.

I'd say this is disinformatsia designed to make him less appealing to the GOP, who may be shaping a package of committee chairmanships, really nice offices and prime parking privileges for him right now.

The “infrastructure” bill was bad enough.
Trump says it will be 90% wasted.

These are the Assistant Democrats that voted for the “infrastructure” bill.

Dan Sullivan (R-AK) Trump endorsed 2020
Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) Trump endorsed 2020
Mike Crapo (R-ID) Trump endorsed 2022
Roy Blunt (R-MO) Richard Burr (R-NC) retiring
Deb Fischer (R-NE) Trump endorsed 2018
Lindsey Graham (R-SC) Trump endorsed 2020
Rob Portman (R-OH) retiring
Thom Tillis (R-NC) Trump endorsed 2020
Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) Trump backing challenger
Jim Risch (R-ID) Trump endorsed 2020
Chuck Grassley (R-IA) Trump endorsed 2022
Bill Cassidy (R-LA) Trump endorsed 2020
Kevin Cramer (R-ND) Trump endorsed 2018
Roger Wicker (R-MS) Trump endorsed 2018
Mitch McConnell (R-KY) Trump endorsed 2020
John Hoeven (R-ND)
Susan Collins (R-ME) Trump endorsed 2020
Mitt Romney (R-UT) Trump endorsed 2018

We have to stop re-electing Assistant Democrats

Machin is just another brand/branch of Liberal Democrat. He just wants HIS agenda items. For those speculating on him switching to “R” - Please, LORD - NOOOO!!! WE have enough RINOs and Libtards with any “R” next to their names.

Not just folks on Free Republic. More importantly, it’s how many in West Virginia that do. But, if what one person said about how many are getting a government check, it makes sense.

I guess many have forgot about his daughter and the Epipen fiasco.

Depends on where you live. In farm country he's a lefty. Anywhere near a big city -- not so much.

He wants the anti-coal stuff out, but he wouldn't be a Democrat if there weren't things in there that he could support.

Why would you comment anything that could be construed as wanting to help the Democratic Party. We should be encouraging them to do and say more. You kind of sound like Eric Erickson. A guy who is the smartest man in a 12,500 mile radius, just ask him. Every once in a while I would try to listen to him. Didn’t last long.

It was the same....”in the race for ???? the Democrat is getting destroyed by the Republican. Let me tell you what the Democrat is doing wrong and how they can make the race more competitve”.

Why in the world would I want a Democrat to be told what they’re doing wrong and be given advice on how to do better?

.
Biden also appointed his wife to a coveted position.

And in one of the many spending bills they already approved, his wife’s budget was increased by a Billion dollars.

What happened is the WH people told the Media that Manchin always does this and he always folds. That pissed off Manchin, and he’s still pissed.

Look for a January agreement.

I just keep in mind Teddy Roosevelt’s old quip: “When they call the roll in the Senate they don’t know whether to answer ‘Present’ or ‘Not Guilty’.”

I was in an excellent restaurant. The manager and one woman were hustling like mad to serve a large crowd. Normally, there would be several women working. I asked the woman, “if they did away with the child tax credit would it solve your staffing problem?”. She said, “Oh Lord yes. The government is screwing us.”

And McTurtle (as well as a few FReepers) want this guy to become a Republican? I guess there is always room for one more good old boy as long as he is part of the deep state.

Aside from the traitorous scum Republican’s that allowed it to happen, one thing I’m really looking forward to is, how many projects go to Republican districts. Dare I say very few, if any.

I can understand the RINOs that are retiring, as they got the envelop under the table, at some point, as a parting gift.

But take some of the other ones that aren’t retiring. And reach down to the House Republicans, namely Maliatokis. She says it’s for the infrastructure. Her district is in NYC. Is she really that stupid to think that a Democratic White, Sec of Transportation and an absolute radical Leftist in the Mayor’s office is going to let one dime be spent in her district? She may have been promised something. But, I’m sure it was something along the lines of....when we’re done with Projects A, B, & C, we’ll get to your project, Project D. And, lo and behold, there won’t be anymore money left. So sad.

“And isn’t the current version a 1.75 Trillion bill?”

The GAO estimated it at $5.00 Trillion. They only fund 2 years.
