No, your antiMitch bias is in this instance ridiculous.
West Virginia is poor but has money. At least WV has wealthy business interests that are run by Democrats. They are the source of Manchin’s money and power.
He is acting in accord with their wishes and direction

Other stories have Manchin-on-a-Hill becoming an “independent.” It would make sense. Probably his only chance of winning reelection in 2024 is in a three way race.
