The Democratic leaders of both Long Island counties have joined with dozens of Republican officials around the state to defy Gov. Kathy Hochul’s private-sector mask mandate — and boost the ranks of renegade county governments to nearly two-thirds the total.
“While we will not be actively enforcing the mandate, we will respond to complaints and assist businesses with education and compliance however we can,” Democratic Nassau County Executive Laura Curran told The Post on Friday. ...

Democratic Westchester County Executive George Latimer — who tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday after receiving two doses of vaccine — said officials would enforce Hochul’s mandate “to the best of our ability and with great discretion and understanding,” the Yonkers Times reported Thursday. ....
A Post tally on Friday showed that leaders of 37 of the 57 counties outside New York City — or 64.9 percent — have said they won’t enforce Hochul’s order, with many citing a lack of resources.
Hochul also said that businesses without vaccination policies, “particularly outside of New York City,” should “just require everyone to wear a mask.”...
US Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-Long Island), who is challenging Hochul in next year’s Democratic gubernatorial primary, said Friday that her “lack of executive experience and lack of leadership is creating confusion and is dangerously ineffective.”
“It’s not just Long Island – it’s throughout the state, it’s dozens of counties! It’s really a breakdown in order. It’s not good for society that the governor’s guidance is being ignored,” he said.
“It appears the governor is floundering on efforts to address what she has deemed a crisis.”

I live in El Dorado Hills which is more Right leaning.
Hardly anyone is wearing a mask.

Us country folk are just gonna sit back and watch the show in the cities because they have about as much chance of doing that in the country as they have going to the nearest galaxy.

Gov. Kathy Hochul will learn quick that even the state of New York is not like New Zealand. Even that lady from Michigan learned the hard way and backed off since then.
If it's a little like Staten Island, you probably have a lot of pissed off Italian Americans. They are not your ordinary hipster types that you see in Manhattan.
20. Masks don’t work. At least a dozen scientific studies have shown that masks do nothing to stop the spread of respiratory viruses.
One meta-analysis published by the CDC in May 2020 found “no significant reduction in influenza transmission with the use of face masks”.
Another study with over 8000 subjects found masks “did not seem to be effective against laboratory-confirmed viral respiratory infections nor against clinical respiratory infection.”

While some studies have been done claiming to show mask do work for Covid, they are all seriously flawed. One relied on self-reported surveys as data. Another was so badly designed a panel of experts demand it be withdrawn. A third was withdrawn after its predictions proved entirely incorrect.
The WHO commissioned their own meta-analysis in the Lancet, but that study looked only at N95 masks and only in hospitals. [For full run down on the bad data in this study click here.]
Aside from scientific evidence, there’s plenty of real-world evidence that masks do nothing to halt the spread of disease.
