Think Legal Weed Cut Down On Crime? Think Again

If you thought legalizing weed would cut down on crime, think again. t did cut down on crime in a way—pot smokers were no longer being prosecuted for smoking, and some growers did come out of the shadows. But it also brought in the drug cartels who could hide their illegal growing operations amidst the tons of legal ones that sprang up. Watch this episode of America Uncovered for how the cartels are moving in where marijuana is legalized, the use of narco-slaves to grow the illegal weed, and how it's wreaking havoc on the environment.

Legal where I am: $200 an ounce.

Black Market: $150 an ounce.

Quality: BM comparable or better quality, it all depends on the curing, most large growers rush it. The boutique small growers can produce a better product if they want to.

That’s for sure. A conservative-designed utopia would be about as wonderful as one made by socialists. The human urge to control the behavior of other s runs very deep.

“My question is, why not the same for marijuana?”

The taxes are too high.

Dispensaries around here evidently have a price-range to accommodate the spectrum from homeless to attorneys and doctors.

The idiots on FreeRepublic and elsewhere for legalization were useful stooges for the cartels and the left. They both have what they want. Increased distribution of product and control of politicians by the cartel and stoned compliant masses for the left.

I see.

Taxes exist on booze, too.

How come we don’t have cartels running massive illegal hootch operations?

Or is that just called hillbillies?

My best friend since 7th grade started an internet marketing company that he is getting ready to sell for $50-60 million. He made $1.8 million last year in salary and bonuses. He smokes a lot of pot. I think many freepers are elderly shut-ins afraid of the world outside.

That’s because we’re legalizing it STUPID. Putting enough taxes and licensing on it to make sure the white market weed is still more expensive than the black market. Legalize it smart, like booze is, black market can’t compete.

They are not the same. The first thing the government did when they re-legalized alcohol was to go HARD against illegal alcohol manufacturers. HARD. "Revenuers" went after stills, they busted up gangs that were making alcohol. That's because making hard liquor was, by comparison, much harder than bringing weed to market. Grow it, sell it compared to "get grain, get ingredients, get a still, monitor still, bottle it, distribute it...etc etc.

After a while the price point of making illegal alcohol makes it not profitable. But making pot will ALWAYS be profitable. Legalizing it and taxing it GUARANTEES an increased black market UNLESS they go HARD against every cartel that distributes it. But they won't because the cartels control enough politicians to stop it.

It certainly cut down on the number of people capable of holding down a job.

Now we have cities that have de facto legalized narcotics, which has cut down the number of people living past 30 years old.

Washington's scheme didn't allow for individual cultivation for personal use, as I understand it. That makes it much different from most State schemes.

That is because for the people actively pushing for legalization it was never about “helping” people. It was always about making money.

The alcohol producers can easily compete, they have long-standing popular brands and mass production. Only hideaway hillbillies are interested in moonshine.

Pot is a different story.

I wouldn’t drop my favorite wines for any back-alley producer though I do drink the wonderful basement wines from my relatives when in Italy.

It’s like any product, the axis of price and quality determines popularity.

My wife recently had an annual Medicare wellness exam with a new doctor. The doctor asked, “Do you smoke?” Wife said, “Not tobacco, but I smoke pot.” Doctor said, “Well that’s fine.”

That is correct for both the public and private sector. It’s about money. And like the lottery, one can participate or not. I never buy lottery tickets.

...just like cigarette taxes were put in place to facilitate the local crime bosses running of unstamped cigarettes.

Cigarette and other 'sin' taxes are fleecing of addicts and those who can't/won't quit their particular vice. Cigarette taxes are especially wonderful since they are very physically addictive, and becoming more socially 'unacceptable'. They can tax the living h*ll out of those without negative consequence.

The government LOVES robbing addicts.

It only upped the ante with assuredness that one out of three users will become addicted and with Biden's open borders the Crime Family Head, Biden, is in bed with the drug cartels, big time! What else did you think our southern border was open for...votes?

Neah.
Conservatives always said that any taxation had to be done at rate that would still allow the seller to undercut the street vendors.

Democrats need an issue to get younger voters to vote in elections.

“It has turned into a living nightmare in the part of Washington State we live in. Every time we get out in our car someone is smoking pot in vehicles ahead of us. Our car is filled with the skunk like odor. It is the same at both of our houses which are both in good neighborhoods.

Homelessness has skyrocketed since legalization. A larger and large percentage of people are making the decision to just smoke pot and do nothing else. Not to mention skyrocketing mental illness which billions of dollars in marijuana obviously has something to do with.

We now have over $2 Billion of legal marijuana being sold here along with what is now thought to be an even larger number of illegal sales. This far out paces both alcohol and tobacco combined. It is insane.”

The history of Marijuana is yet to be written...

Good for him. I know a bunch of heavy pot smokers who have made lots of money. The problem is that I am old enough to see the toll that it eventually takes. They almost all have psych issues, that can be pretty severe along with other health problems like varicose veins and other circulation related issues. And if they smoke it their lungs are eventually trashed.

This is not unlike alcoholics many of whom outlive their non-drinking acquaintances. Look at Dick Van Dyke and a lot of other celebrities. Many drop dead at an early age, but some like Dick keep going on fora very long time. Of course, he stopped drinking long ago after being an alcoholic for 25 years. Heredity is a huge factor.
