Former NFL player Phillip Adams, who shot and killed 6 people before taking his own life in April, had severe brain damage from CTE, researchers from Boston University said in a statement Tuesday.
"His 20-year career put him at high risk for development of CTE," Dr. Ann McKee, a neuropathologist and expert on neurodegenerative diseases at Boston University who conducted the study on Adams' brain, said during a press conference attended by insider.
"It's a progressive disease that worsens with age. In many instances, it is a disease of the young," she added.
McKee said Adams had severe CTE in both frontal lobes of his brain, adding that damage to the frontal lobe is associated with violent activity.

Rugby doesn’t use helmets or shoulder pads. But it doesn’t have the gladiator look to it.
Maybe it also has something to do with how they bulk up, or some yet other unknown factor.
You took the thought right outta my head my friend...CTE will continue to be problematic until the helmets are redesigned IMO.
Or better yet just go to a no tackle flag concept...Considing how ridiculous some of the rules are now they might as well.

The modern equipment allows greater collision velocity without causing a skull fracture (which makes for great TV), but no equipment can protect the brain against deceleration, which is the cause (if repeated enough) of the CTE.
Leather helmets limited collision velocity all on their own.

Players nowadays use the helmet as a battering ram to take out an opponent.

MSN, along with the rest of the msm, always notifies us of the races of people involved, when the person killed is black and the shooter is White, regardless of circumstances.
In this instance, Adams murdered a doctor, his wife, 2 grandchildren and an HVAC tech, all White, yet race isn't mentioned.

Now the msm has gone into overdrive to claim the murders really weren't his fault.
A few years back, Rush Limbaugh said that because of CTE football in the future would become a diminished, regional sport. Public opinion and too many potential law suits.
It was mentioned when it happened only 1 month after the Colorado shooting, which disappeared immediately from the headlines when the perp was found out to be a Syrian immigrant that hated Trump. This one didn’t fade from the headlines I assume because it involved the two young grandchildren. Rather they blamed the whole thing on the NFL at the time. Looks like they are still doing so
Undoubtedly true - but the enhanced training and resultant increase in speed and muscle mass (with or without steroids) would not result in CTE if the player's heads were not so well protected.
Helmets govern what happens OUTSIDE the skull.
Brain deceleration with consequent impact on the side of the skull happens on the INSIDE of the skull, and no helmet can protect against it.
To protect against it, you need decreased collision velocity, and to do that, paradoxically, you need to decrease protection of the skull.
Considering how black players use getting their helmet knocked off as an excuse to be seen on TV might as well get rid of the helmets.
His doctor, he didn’t go into a school or a shopping mall, he went to his doctor’s house so this is more personal than racist in fact I don’t think it was racist at all the guy was just mad at his doctor cuz he couldn’t fix him
