NewsBusters Podcast: Chris Wallace 'Delighted' to Join Zucker's 'Great Team' at CNN

Chris Wallace announced he was leaving Fox News, and then he joined CNN’s new streaming service. He even said he was “delighted to join Jeff Zucker and his great team.” Oh, the network of Chris Cuomo? And Jeffrey Toobin? And Don Lemon?

Ratings-wise, this is like leaving the Super Bowl champs and joining the Detroit Lions. Wallace said he’s excited “to go beyond politics to all the things I'm interested in.” He’s 74, and we’ll see what he wants to do. It sounds like it won’t be just politics. Maybe he'll bake cupcakes?

A Fox source told Brian Stelter his departure felt "like a death in the family" at the bureau. On Fox's MediaBuzz, host Howard Kurtz wished Chris Wallace well at CNN, and called it a "major loss" for Fox News. Is it? Let's see what happens to the Fox News Sunday ratings. One thing we CAN guess: The Democrats now will really oppose a debate moderator from Fox. Maybe the new host can be that nominee.

Where he should have been spouting his dumbassery all along. But, he may reveal a whole lot of secret faux noose insider info. On the other hand, faux noose? Meh!

Well of course he said that. Saying anything but that would be unprofessional. Any time somebody in the media switches jobs they are delighted to join a great team. It’s part of the job.

Chris Wallace isn’t nearly as popular as he thinks he is. Almost no one is going to watch that stupid toad.

Wallace should feel right at home with his CNN homies. CNN is a waste material magnet.

Is CNN counting on Wallace bringing with him a large number of Fox viewers?? If so, too bad. Fox may gain some without Wallace in the lineup.

Good point.

Fox ratings for the Sunday show will probably go way up without Wallace.

Chris Wallace is a sewer rat who takes joy in returning to the CNN sewer.

Talk about a ship of fools.

Good point. He’s probably all giddy about the ‘grooming’ services CNN offers its hosts.

I never understood Chris Wallace at Fox. Why in the world would the network put him in their lineup? And why would he abide their points of view?

His job every hour was to be the one defending that which was indefensible. It was a losing proposition every single time. It is unimaginable to me that anyone would set themselves up to always look the fool, no matter the compensation.

This move makes complete sense. The move in any event raises the bar at both networks, as another poster has suggested. If he continues to play the centrist, moderate, reasonable voice he could actually make a positive impact.
