SEATTLE - The Salvation Army is facing a shortage of toys and donations ahead of the holiday season, and urge communities to find a way to help.
The nonprofit reports it gets 75% of total annual donations during November and December, and they are once again in need of support. That help can come in the form of an online donation at the virtual Northwest Red Kettle.
"There are many reasons why both financial and toy donations are down this year, not the least of which is likely pandemic fatigue and concerns about employment and the future," said Colonel Cindy Foley of the NW Salvation Army Division. "We are actually trying to provide food, shelter, toys and clothing to double the number of families we served last Christmas, and in the midst of the growing need we are seeing fewer people donating at our virtual and physical kettles."
Not only is the nonprofit organization short on donations, they also are in desperate need of bell ringers to staff the red kettles seen at businesses around the country.
"The situation is dire, and we are asking our generous supporters in the region to donate to the virtual Northwest Red Kettle as well as make donations at every physical kettle in whatever way you can," said Foley.
That’s why I haven’t and won’t give them a penny this year.
I stopped when I heard stories of the United Way tacitly eencouraging management at companies do the "donate or lose your job" schtick.
Boo frickin’ hoo.
Go woke; go broke.
Gosh....I guess White people are not terribly keen on donating to or volunteering for an organization that has made it clear it hates them, their history and their culture. Go figure.
Well, they could issue an heartfelt apology to ‘bipoc’ folks that they failed due to ‘woke-eosity’. Hard to walk past the bell ringers but we do now. #1 charity? Us.
Our local Fox channel in Knoxville had this same story a couple weeks ago. We laughed. Of course, they lied by omission ‘cause they didn’t tell “the rest of the story”.
I haven’t gi.ven them money for decades and never will
SA red kettles used to be pretty ubiquitous around Christmas time ... I haven't seen one yet this year. Not one.
This is what happens when you hire "woke" libtards to run your organization and they make stupid, woke, derogatory, racist statements about their biggest donors.
Never bought the UW crap at work. Had lots of pressure to be a contributing member but declined.
I used to be a regular donor.
Go woke, go broke.
I would donate if I wasn’t so busy struggling with my whiteness.
I walked right past a SA bell ringer a couple of days ago. I haven’t done that in YEARS.
For the dumbasses at the Salvation Army: To meet your “woke” criteria invoked this year: I didn’t provide any money or toys this year because I didn’t want to foist my “white privilege” on those less fortunate non-whites. Sorry. [This should both meet your dumbassed “acknowledge my whiteness” and “apologize for it” wokeness criteria; good luck in the coming years.]
Any apology which is only issued when their arm is twisted behind their back isn't sincere.
I too would ALWAYS give money to them whenever I saw/heard a bell ringer kettle. The last two I passed because of their political comments.
Instead, I give FOOD to the local SHARE organization in the town 5 miles south of where I live. I call them and ask what food items do you actually need? They always have a list of things such as peanut butter. These items then are given to people that live within 15 miles of my house.
Check out SHARE in your area.
There is always Toys for Tots.
Or any number of Veteran organizations.
Ha!!!!!!
I know my monthly donation went to zero.
Get woke, go broke.
And the Left destroys another formerly venerated institution.
Add it to the list with the major christian denominations, the Scouts, major league sports, on and on.
They at least have the Virtue Soapbox benefits.
