Covid: Omicron study suggests major wave in January

The UK is facing a substantial wave of Omicron infections in January without further restrictions, scientists say.

The number of deaths from the variant by the end of April could range from 25,000 to 75,000 depending on how well vaccines perform, they said.

But the experts behind the study said there was still uncertainty around the modelling.

In the worst-case scenario tougher restrictions may be needed to stop hospitals being overwhelmed, they said.

The study is by an influential group of disease modellers at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) who also advise the government - but it is not a crystal ball. It does not say what will happen with the Omicron variant of coronavirus but gives a range of possible outcomes.

High uptake of the booster dose is likely to mitigate the impact of the Omicron wave, the researchers said.

It's a good guess. There is likely a SEASONAL DIMENSION to cases and fatalities.

The majority of deaths in most countries can be attributed to causes that feature a distinct seasonal pattern. The figure depicts the relative monthly frequencies of nine selected causes of death in the United States for women and men combined for the years 1959–2014. The reported number of counts in parentheses in the title of each panel is the actual number of deaths.

Viruses gonna virus. Even non-viruses gonna non-virus. Anyone who promotes eradication as a policy goal is either a fool or a statist (or both). It's like the war on drugs...liberty is destroyed, lives are lost, and Leviathan grows.

By the way, here’s a particularly juicy bit of nonsense from the Guardian article:

In point of fact, there is a much better case to be made that we are seeing Original Antigenic Sin (yes, that’s a thing) at work:

My son came down with covid last Sunday. He immediately started taking Ivermectin (horse paste), zinc, D3, C and quercetin. By Wednesday he was getting better and is mostly well now.

His co-workers who had it before him are still very sick.

It’s not proof the treatment works, but he got better fast.

So just who has the Test for Omicron? The Doctors in my area don’t have it. I talked to a Nurse Practitioner yesterday who told me none of the Clinics have a specific test for Omicron... So this is all BS?
