Abstract
Many causes of death have a clear seasonal pattern. Circulatory and respiratory diseases, which comprise about half of all deaths, have a peak in winter and lowest mortality during summer. Data by cause of death, age, and calendar time (month and year) provided by the National Center for Health Statistics allow an analysis how seasonality has changed over age and time. Using a two-dimensional decomposition and smoothing approach, we show how the amplitude and the phase of selected causes of death have developed since the late 1950s.
9.1 Decomposing Seasonal Data
The majority of deaths in most countries can be attributed to causes that feature a distinct seasonal pattern. Figure 9.1 depicts the relative monthly frequencies of nine selected causes of death in the United States for women and men combined for the years 1959–2014. The reported number of counts in parentheses in the title of each panel is the actual number of deaths. To control for varying lengths of months, the monthly columns in each histogram have been adjusted for a uniform length (30 days). The horizontal reference lines denote the expected value of a uniform distribution (=1/12).

If diseases, and ultimately, mortality occur seasonally, it has been argued that “an environmental factor has to be considered in the etiology of that disease” (Marrero 1983, p. 275).1 The main environmental factor to trigger higher mortality during winter for circulatory diseases and respiratory diseases—the rows on top of Fig. 9.1—is well understood: temperature. Cold temperatures constrict the blood vessels and change the composition of the blood; furthermore, low temperatures facilitate the survival of bacteria in droplets and increase the risk for pulmonary infections (Eurowinter Group 1997, 2000; Huynen et al. 2001; Rau 2007).

Only epidemic was in March/April in cesspool New York.

Also the virus is racist. Mostly Marshallese and Latinos hit hardest in our area.
I see the virus as being ageist. Most of the case surge is with the young but the hospitalizaon and fatality increases are with the elderly. We should protect the elderly and leave the young and healthy alone. Instead we restrict the young and kill the old and infirm.
No, but it could possibly be attenuated if they did.
I disagree. The case surge from mid Sept in mask-free Sweden is 9% higher than in the US, but SE’s temperature in the low 40s is lower than than of the US.
If it stays this way this will be the mildest flu or head cold I have ever contracted.

Had a fever between 101-102 for about two or three days...then a low grad fever between 99-101. General fatigue and not appetite.
Lost around ten pounds though!
It took most of the month to get appetite and energy back.
Very thankful to God it wasn't worse.
So far three in the family have had it back in December. Wife and eldest had lost of taste and smell but have gotten majority of it back.
When I had my follow up test to see if I was done with it I asked if they could tell which variant I had. They couldn't.
However, CDC (yeah I know) says if you had the wuhan flu after July presume it is the Delta variant.
