The ongoing coronavirus pandemic and mask mandates rolled out by governments worldwide have caused an “exponential increase” in face mask pollution, comprehensive research based on data collected in 11 countries suggests.

The nearly 9,000% increase in PPE litter clearly shows the enforcement of face mask-wearing “must be accompanied with education campaigns to limit their release into the environment,”Dr. Keiron Roberts, lead researcher with the University of Portsmouth, said.

I'm seeing this everywhere:

Remember the concerns about dolphins and other animals getting their snouts stuck in the plastic six pack holders? What will the germ laden used masks do to wildlife? Oh, the HUGE MANATEE!!

We’ve all seen them on every parking lot and sidewalk in town.

Believe this: I saw a young woman walking a nice golden retriever and the dog was wearing a mask.

I heard this could happen. But this is nuts.

Why can’t people discipline themselves and throw the masks in a trash can?

Many of us have lost our sense of civic duty.

I welcome this litter.

On my way into the doctors office I told the nurse I forgot my mask and luckily there were several to choose from in the parking lot. /s

Hat tip to Gov. Dinwiddie 😎

What causes the litter is not the Plandemic. This litter, like all litter is caused by lazy slobs.

Discarded masks are clearly an environmental hazard, yet we hear not a peep from the environmentalist wackos

I see them everywhere. Every gas station, every supermarket/drug store/restaurant parking lot and of course sidewalks and street gutters. Once in a while I see one just outside my car door and have to check to make sure it’s not mine. Not that I would pick it up. They are cheap now so I have plenty in the car and one or two in my pockets... because I live in an asylum of a state.

My first thought, too. How can there be a 9,000% INCREASE if there was zero litter before.

If there was a handful of pre-covid face masks littered about, then the percentage increase is probably 10 million or 100 million or a billion. Did they do a survey of face mask litter BEFORE COVID?

The “9,000% increase” is hokum and pure bull excrement.

So few people are wearing them in North Idaho, it’s very hard to not stare at the freaks. I’m guessing 0.1% based on what I see.

We went to a charity fund raising event a couple weeks ago with 200 to 300 people and I saw one mask. We went to a fun Christmas show last weekend and maybe 200 people. Wouldn’t you know it? Two women sat down next to us wearing masks! The only 2 out of the 200 there.

It’s hazardous medical waste. On the table while you eat in the lunch room, yes. But it’s infectious medical waste. It should be disposed of as biohazardous material. That is unless the CDC has been lying to us. Then it’s just trash.

I was wondering when the PANIC on 'mask trash' was going to start. Kind of surprised it took the EnviroWeenies THIS long!

Every time I see one of those disgusting things on the ground, I jokingly tell my kids, “Who wants a free mask?” lol

Proof that mask wearing is nothing but virtue signalling.

You can’t convince me that someone who throws their bio-hazard waste on the ground gives a rat’s ass about anyone’s health. Not even their own.

And notice that this purportedly lethal and virulent disease never had its debris managed as biohazard outside of hospital settings.

Even the middle ages they handled biohazard by burning.
