Democracy is in danger if the people choose the wrong candidate.
That’s their point of view.
According to the NYT, anyone other than a hardcore Communist being elected to any office is a threat to “democracy”.
Yeah *COUGH* I see that all around me when I see the news *COUGH*
The Constitutional crisis was when a president and a failed candidate used the full force of the government to destroy the duly elected new President
Yes, mainstream media, keep thinking like that. “Anti-Trump, all the time.” Continue your slide into irrelevance. I expect you to continue with the TDS fifty years from now.
What exactly is Trump’s “threat to democracy” they keep talking about??? Be specific.
(not you, cotton the article)
Isn’t it the job of the press to report the news, not prevent every Republican from becoming president
What branch of the US government does the Media represent? They seem convinced that they have an active role to play in US elections besides just reporting the News. Getting a little retired of repeating the cycle where every Republican-nominee is a racist/homophobe who is worse than the last nominee who in-turn was worse than Hitler. Whoever runs (if Trump doesn’t) will be “worse than Trump.”
When the pinkos at the NYT say “democracy” they mean one party rule.
I knew Douthat was a villain back in the Sarah Palin days, when he was casting slurs at her in National Review. He’s gone completely insane now.
I’m still looking for this Trump threat to American democracy when they didn’t care to support his clear and legitimate win.
I’m still looking for this Trump threat to American democracy when they didn’t care to support his clear and legitimate 2016 win.
Democracy is in danger from 3 things:
First, it is in danger if the press and media report their political opinions as if they were facts. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even those who buy ink by the barrel or who speak with 50,000 watts behind their voice, but we require HONESTY about what the facts are in any given circumstance on the one hand, and the opinion of the person or company writing or speaking them on the other. That’s why there is a separate editorial page in newspapers, and why radio and TV opinions are supposed to clearly indicate when the words you are hearing or watching are opinion.
The second most dangerous thing is when individual reporters/broadcasters, or the companies for which they work, decide that rather than being even biased watchdogs over the words and actions of government and very influential people and organizations, they decide to become prime actors in our political process. Of course, each individual and organization can, in a free country, decide whether or not to become involved in the political process - but no one can simultaneously be involved in the process AND try to play the roll of an impartial reporter of the facts. That is outright deception, and is very dangerous to a free people.
The third most dangerous thing is when people who ought to know better constantly refer to our form of government as a “democracy.” We are decidedly NOT a democracy; instead, we are a constitutional republic.
In my most humble of opinions, the only entity that can end the Trump restoration is the man himself. Unfortunately at times it appears he is really trying hard to do just that.
Sad.
Donning flame retardant jacket.
....chosen a disastrous evenhandedness over moral clarity and covered President Biden (or perhaps Vice President Kamala Harris) like a normal politician instead of the republic’s last best hope.
They are political operatives for a ruling class faction.
What has changed is that now everyone knows it. Pretending otherwise is a political litmus test.
disastrous evenhandedness
/\
THIS is who and what they are despite all their alleged commitment to equity.
Evenhandedness is really a vice in their minds, so their call for equity is disingenuous.
Spit.
See Tagline. Sometimes I hate it when I’m right all the time, (well, most of the time).
