Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas has changed a policy that denied sex reassignment surgery to people who did not legally change their names, the company confirmed Thursday.
The change came after the American Civil Liberties Union of Kansas and the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund raised the issue on behalf of Charley Osman, a transgender man, who was rejected after he sought pre-authorization in June for two surgeries.
“I’m pretty sure I’m not the first person to go through this, but I want to be sure I’m the last,” Osman said in a news release issued by ACLU Kansas. “This is an incredibly expensive surgery, and for a long time I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to have it. I’m very glad Blue Cross Blue Shield changed their policies so that no one else has to go through what I did.”
Several medical providers agreed Osman’s surgery was medically necessary, ACLU of Kansas said. The organizations sent a letter to Blue Cross Blue Shield on Osman’s behalf in August saying the name change requirement was outdated, inconsistent with medical standards, discriminatory and illegal.
With the policy change, Osman will undergo the surgeries by the end of the year, according to the statement.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas said it makes decisions based on feedback and insights from its members.
“Policies are important to ensure we keep costs down and insurance affordable,” the company said in a statement. “However, we are constantly reviewing and updating these policies to meet the evolving needs of our members, and this is a good example of that process working.”

It’s only a matter of time before all medical insurance providers and all hospitals and all doctors, are forced to allow gender reassignment procedures, since, all of those surgeries WILL Be redefined as medically necessary procedures because of ‘preexisting conditions’ where a man or woman feels they were born into the ‘wrong body’.
A Charley by any other name is still one confused soon to be surgically altered dude.
This is a damned strange country we live in. In my lifetime, I can barely believe it.

My doctor told me medicine is as subject to fads as teenage girls. Operations become “fashionable” for a while and then vanish as finally the doctors all agree they didn’t do what they were supposed to do despite all the breathless papers and articles.
In a few years transgender surgery will be right next to lobotomies in people’s disgust. I feel sorry for the many thousands of permanently mutilated men and women. They will have their place in history next to the Chinese women who had their feet bound, because a woman who can’t walk is SO sexy.
Let’s see here... Compound fracture of the arm surgery couple of broken ankles couple of broken toes metatarsals shattered wrist and a quadricep Detachment from a knee cap. I fail to understand how anybody wants to do any freak surgery.
Preexisting conditions for sexual reassignment? Why don’t they just do a brain transplant and put the right brain and the body that’s there before them.
But... brain transplant can’t be performed yet.

In all reality this is a cosmetic procedure although a very radical one. That’s why insurance shouldn’t cover it.
This could become very expensive for everyone. What if a 60 year old man or woman self-identifies as a teenager? Does insurance have to pay for facelifts, hair transplants, liposuction, laser resurfacing, etc?
I think this is why the aliens haven’t landed and announced themselves. They know this crap is going on and they’re like dude these beings are nuts.

I’m losing my job shortly with a “woke” company that uses this very insurance company and they have been bugging me for my vaccine card or for me to sign a paper saying that I do not intend to get the vaccine, to be prepared in case Biden’s idiotic OSHA mandate goes through by January 4th. My last day is supposed to be January 7th. I have ignored their emails thus far. I don’t intend to be put on any list whether vaccinated or not. They waste a lot of money on ‘woke” crap that they could be using to pull the company out of dire fiscal circumstances instead of closing our office where some have worked for 20,35 and 40+ years. I hate to lose my job, but I will not miss the stupidity in judgement that this huge company seems to enjoy using.
