Meadows signals Trump 2024 run

Former President Donald Trump wants his political team to start preparing for a 2024 run to win a second term “denied him,” according to former staff chief and current top adviser Mark Meadows.

In his new book out today, The Chief’s Chief , Meadows said that Trump’s call came after the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, which the former president blamed on his successor, President Joe Biden, and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley.

“During our conversation, President Trump said the words that I had been waiting to hear for seven months. ‘We have to be ready,’ he said. ‘We have to do it again for the sake of our great country,’” wrote Meadows in the book that was provided to Secrets.

He added, “Clearly, the time for ‘hanging around’ was over. When President Trump said we had to ‘do it again,’ he was not simply stating some abstract idea. The message was clear: We had to prepare for the second term that had been denied him. We needed four more years. That’s four more years to reverse the damage that Biden had managed to inflict on our country in just seven short months; four more years to truly drain the swamp; four more years to remind America that our country is truly great, no matter what anyone on the left has to say about it.”

Meadows and other former Trump aides have been signaling another White House bid for months, and Trump has also been teasing it.

The expectations are that if Trump decides to jump in, he will do it after the 2022 midterm congressional elections. He is already heavily involved in those campaigns with endorsements and fundraising.

Recent polls show Trump leading the GOP primary and also beating Biden. Meadows predicted “Draft Trump” efforts and even discussion over a vice presidential pick.

In his book, which has made headlines over Trump’s coronavirus case, Meadows indicated that he is working to build up a new Trump campaign staff and a plan to move quicker in a second term to put key personnel in office.

“During our frequent phone calls, he often tells me that he wishes he knew then what we know now, namely that when you’re running the White House, personnel is key. He says that he wishes he could go back and root out all the political appointees who worked privately to undermine his agenda. We can’t do that. But we can make sure that we don’t make the same mistake the second time around,” wrote Meadows.

I cannot think of anything that would increase usage of the new Trump Social Media platforms than him running for office.

I am in but he has to get a MAGA congress. It is one thing to act as an executive to make positive changes but the real lasting impacts are legislating your agenda.

That’s cool. I wonder who Trump will pick to run in his stead when the time comes because I’m convinced that is the plan.

Trump can win if he comes out as taking covid seriously and is pro-vaccines. Because by election day 2024 there will be FOUR TIMES as many Americans who will have chosen the jabs compared to votes president Trump received in either run. That is a formidable size of vaxxed voters.

If COVID is even on the horizon in 2024 he probably can’t win.

Calling for people to get vaccinated is the only thing that gets his supporters to boo him at his own rallies.

Trump has decided to run already, but there are legal reasons to announce it much later. It has something to do with financing rules. Besides, it's a long way to announcing and nobody is even running yet. Why have dozens of side shows long before the money is needed? Does anyone believe the media will hang back for the next 3 years so Trump won't spend a lot of money before the campaign? He will have gangs of media combing through his taxes and business deals and have to defend against more lies.

It's smart to just hang back and keep them guessing until later in the cycle. Even the donors will be followed around and harassed. Waiting means less time and money needed for all of that.

Desantis has agreed to NOT run if Trump wants it. Any other names are just a wish list. Desantis could even be VP for Trump to have a name and practice for 4 years later. Trump/Desantis would be unbeatable, IMO. If Desantis wanted to announce this early, there would be trouble for him the next 3 years.

Trump has been quite pro-vaccine. He's not pro-vaccine mandate. Many people who have gotten shots feel similarly.

Also, many of the people who got shots in good faith may have buyer's remorse after they have gotten their 4th booster with no real long-term protection.
