South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) proposed to spend $1 billion on infrastructure and state employee raises in a budget address to state lawmakers on Tuesday.
Noem wants to use the billions of dollars given to South Dakota by the federal government to give a six percent wage increase to state employees, such as teachers and government employees, The Associated Press reported.
She also wants to allocate money for housing, emergency responders, daycare facilities and water infrastructure.

I suspect the big contractors asked for the largess, so she, as usual, complied.

To hell with pay raises for our “public masters” who do nothing but torture us and steal our money.

After Biden’s money runs out, who’s going to pay for those raises
in the future? Once u give a raise, hard to take back.

A good person would use the money to reduce state taxes on food, clothes, entertainment, gasoline, inheritance, and personal income...
A slimeball politician would use the money to give worthless government employees and worthless government institutions (like government propaganda institutions) a raise...
Let the peasants eat moldy bread...

Yeah, because SD has skyscrapers, super highways, tunnels, and bridges to maintain.

We should not be encouraging anyone to go into government work. Except on a volunteer or low paying basis.

article:
"six percent wage increase to state employees, such as teachers and government employees" That is exactly the WHOLE gist of Biden's "infrastructure bill" — payoffs to his constituency.

One infrastructure I’d like to see built is a network of water pipelines/aqueducts.
There are recurring droughts all over the southwestern states. Meanwhile Oregon and Washington are drowning in water.
If the Romans could build sophisticated aqueducts that stand to this day, surely we should be able to do 100 times more with our technology and the trillions of dollars being wasted on enabling people to be more dependent and irresponsible
Similarly, we could build desalination plants that could supply huge amount of water where it’s needed, like SoCal.
Of course the environazis would have a cow of major proportions.
There is no shortage of water, just an oversupply of activist environazis and their enabling useful idiots.

According to an article in Reason website: “South Dakota ranks in the bottom five states nationally in percent structurally deficient bridges. More than 17% of the state's bridges are structurally deficient.” The state ranks 29th in rural arterial pavement quality. Governor Noem should spend the Federal funds on its roads rather than pay raises for state employees.

It would be asking a lot for a small state to refuse a billion federal dollars. It wouldn’t mean anything ideologically, just take the money and use it to your state’s advantage.
