Apple's success in China is allegedly down to an agreement with the country's government to help develop its economy, with a report claiming CEO Tim Cook personally lobbied officials to get the best deal for the company.

After hearing Steve Bannon talk about this, I am walking away from Apple, iPhones and all their passwords and double security, just like I did when I left Facebook, Amazon, Twitter, Chase, Woka Cola and United Airlines, Wells Fargo. If anyone knows of a computer made in the USA, that doesn’t contribute money to BLM and encourage the Global Elite.. I’m buying.
Joe got 10%.
Hang him.
What say you, chum?
> Joe got 10%.
Article says it was signed in 2016
This is both not surprising, and disgusting.
It is a perfect example of where Tim Cook and his globalist elitist ilk have taken the Silicon Valley for the last 20 years.
While I am in the Apple Ecosystem, I’m working hard to get out of it. I’m embarrassed to have bought a new laptop from them recently.
In 2016, ObaMao was president, and Bribe’em was VP.
Been a relief not seeing Apple spam every day for a while now. Guess the reality of that liberal company squelched that.
Such a thing does not exist. Your only option is to switch to Linux. Open Source and controlled by nobody.
If you want help, any time, any day, I’ll help you. Just let me know. I would love to get more people off of Big Tech.
so i guess timmy will be going over again to get a new deal
Apple make some computers in the US like the Mac Pro, other than that no one does. As for operating system, there is Linux, but likely you need to know Unix commands and so forth. Plus there is malware out there for it.
Even if you get some Linux system running on some older PC (assembled in China), you will still face security problems that will require patches to overcome with any success, until you get hacked, pwned, and owned again.
All PC makers and software purveyors have cut deals with China. It is a necessity to do business there - no getting around it.
Perhaps if you find an old Tandy running basic from the early 80s, you will escape all the problems associated with China, big business, big software, and the web - which you will not be able to access anyway. the only other option is to find a remote piece of property and go live on it. There’s lots of it around Fairbanks, AK - just you, the wolves, and the bears.
Standing on principles to the extent of crippling yourself is never a good idea.
Me, too. Period.
Apple has been in-bed with the CCP far longer then 2015.
Apple is a publicly traded corporation with its books open, showing all entries for income and expenses. There are no entries show a five year program totaling $275 billion “slush fund” being spent in Asia, much less in China alone. The amount would be equivalent to the You are talking a total amount equal to several years total profits from Asian Sales after taxes. Add it’s SECRET (dripping in derision)! We can’t find where Apple has spent anywhere near that amount of money, except where it WOULD have spent it for manufacturing its products anyway, and during that time Apple moved many products OUT of China to, diversifying its manufacturing and product assembly to countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Ireland, and even the United States. It simply does not make sense for this to be true. Look how it checks all the anti-China/hate-Apple boxes… Ergo, it’s FUD.—PING

Thanks Swordmaker.
Think about it:
“Apple’s annual net income for fiscal 2021 was $94.68 Billion”
One fifth of $275 billion purported expended to “secretly benefit Communist China” is $55 billion per year. … that’s 58% of Apple’s 2021 annual net profit! It’s a HIGHER percentage of every other fiscal year’s net profit during the previous four years.
Can you seriously entertain the thought that the stockholders would be sitting still for such a waste of stockholders profits or equity being done secretly? It would a HUGE violation of the Sarbanes Oxley act and people would be going to prison if it were true. It just ain’t a viable thought at all… it’s FUD on the most absurd type designed to do what several of the posters on this thread are claiming as their response, jump ship to anything else except Apple without thinking it through! It’s absurd on its false face.
I find it strangely suspicious that that $275 billion figure is close to the amount Apple has spent on returning value back to the stock holders by buying back outstanding common stock shares over that period of time. I suspect that is where they got that figure in the books.
Incidentally, most of Apple’s expenditures in China don’t actually accrue to CHINA… they accrue to two or three TAIWANESE corporations who just happen to due business in China: HonHai Precision Industries Co, Ltd. (Trading as Foxconn) and Pegatron Corporation. While these companies DO employ Chinese workers, they also do manufacturing and assembly work for the vast majority of all consumer electronics brands in the world, not just Apple. This again shows how FUDish this bogus article is.
