A group of House Republicans are mounting vocal opposition to the National Defense Authorization Act, a massive bill that authorizes the Pentagon’s spending and activities, over a number of its “woke” provisions.
The bill would usher into law a number of new policies related to gender and diversity, climate change, and red flag laws.
Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) tweeted recently: “The NDAA, in it’s current form, would push through a woke military agenda like we’ve never seen before.”
Freedom Caucus Chairman Andy Biggs (AZ) and Reps. Michael Cloud (R-TX), Warren Davidson (R-OH), and Ralph Normal (R-SC) urged Republican senators to band together and oppose it.
The bill passed in the House with the help of 135 Republicans and is now up in the Senate, needing 60 votes to pass, or 10 Republican votes.
Among the provisions is establishment of an “Office of Countering Extremism,” furthering Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s goal to root out “extremists” from the military, which Republican critics argue is aimed at rooting out conservatives.
Boebert said this would “target anyone who still believes in standing for the flag in the United States.”
The bill would make the D.C. mayor the commander-in-chief of the D.C. National Guard for non-homeless defense activities, including civil disturbances, instead of the president or his designates.
The bill also has provisions imposing “diversity and inclusion” reporting requirements on the military and contractors and codifies diversity, equity, and inclusion training requirements, including a provision requiring women to register for the draft.
The bill would provide funding for gender transition surgeries and treatment, and abortifacient drugs .
The bill also contains a “Red Flag” provision that would allow Military Court Gun Confiscation Orders to “restrain a person from possessing, receiving, or otherwise accessing a firearm” without constitutional due process.

The bill would also ban the deployment of any state’s National Guard across state lines on a mission funded by “non-governmental grant, donation or private source of funding, unless for emergency or disaster relief efforts,” aimed at South Dakota Kristi Noem’s decision to send National Guard troops to the southern border.

In committee the GOP also added a cool $20+ billion more than the Dems were even asking for. This was all in the immediate aftermath of the Afghan fiasco when the Milley-Austin-Biden DOD was totally undeserving of a budget increase.
The woke military should not receive this type of money anymore after leaving billions in equipment in Afghanistan, until people are held accountable.
The 135 that voted for this are the same group as the 145 that voted for Liz Cheney in Feb. minus 10.
They ALL need to be primaried if the GOP is ever going to be a real opposition party and not just Assistant Democrats.
