Kim Taylor, 73, a retired nurse, was alone in a pen at Cultivate Care Farms feeding livestock when a sheep repeatedly rammed her. Police and medical workers responded shortly after 9 a.m. Taylor, who went into cardiac arrest, was rushed to UMass Memorial Marlborough Hospital where she was pronounced dead. There were no witnesses to the incident. Cultivate Farms is a nonprofit farm that focuses on therapy, wellness and community outreach. The organization's website outlines its approach: "Through physical work and connection with the animals, clients gain insight into their own abilities for positive change within themselves and in relationships with others." The farm has a range of animals including goats, sheep, alpacas and rabbits. Goat yoga is among its offerings. Some programs, such as a support group for teens, are headed by case managers.

Not an uncommon occurrence
Injuries caused to people working with livestock are not uncommon, according to Dr. Mark J. Ledoux, a large-animal veterinarian based in Brookfield.
“I probably know of someone killed by every kind of livestock,” Ledoux said. “You have to be careful with all livestock.”
As to why a sheep might suddenly attack, Ledoux said there could be many explanations.
Wish we knew more of this story. I’ll google a bit.
You need to take extra care around the rams this time of year - especially if there are ewes around.
that story must send shivers up the spine of the left, even sheep can turn on you. They’ve been quite comfortable thinking that the American sheep will continue to take their beatings and just smile and slink into the corner.
Have never had a buck (goat) ram me like that.
But rams (sheep) - who ‘noter ball game. Definitely have to be vigilant during the fall and early spring. One time I forgot to bring my crook into the pen as I went to close a gate. The ram hit my hip as I turned away - still knocked me down and hurt.
Always had to keep that crook between myself and a ram. And never turn your back.
LOVE your post. Thank you!
If only the sheep among our citizenry knew this was possible.....
I know does can attack in spring/summer when their fawns are young. But had not clue a buck may do same to a human. Will be more careful as I’m covered up in deer. Not to mention bears and everything else in Blue Ridge, VA.
Sheep are known to attack after they have a baaad day.
Advice too late to help Gene Wilder.
holy cow, I mean holy SHEEP!
If you don’t want to be attacked by sheep the first thing to do is to avoid TheHill and DemocratUnderground sites.
Livestock injuring people....
When Linda Ronstadt was being photographed for the cover of Silk Purse the crew members were afraid she might be injured.
Hogs weigh hundreds of pounds and someone pointed out to her assistant that they could step on and break a person’s foot, or roll over and break their ribs, a hip or a leg.
The woman replied: “Don’t worry about Linda, she’s been on farms. She has experience handling large wild animals, including men.”

Wokeness has not yet filtered down to the livestock. Goats, sheep, mares and stallions tend to behave like they have done for eons. Unfortunately, awareness of climate change and desire to co-exist with all of the other animals of the planet is not a substitute for practical experience.
Over the years riding through the countryside with my father I would often hear these kinds of stories that had a common thread to them.
They went something like this...
The old Schnieder farm. Used to haul hay for them in 38. Dont know what ever happened to them. The family moved after the old man got gored by a bull.
I remember coming here, the Micholichek farm. I milked cows there until 43. One night he didnt come in for supper. When his wife went outside she found he was gored by a bull.
In 1948 I was at the Krieger farm...
Let me guess, he was gored by a bull?
No, he was up in the silo and the damned thing collapsed on him.
Killed him?
No, he was a tough old son of bitch. He went right back to farming. He lived until 52 when he was gored by a bull.
LOL
The shear thought is frightening.
Linda Ronstadt is a very down to earth neat person.
My grandfather, father, uncle and now my cousins have raised sheep for nearly a century.
Never turn your back to a ram.
