A one per cent to five per cent citywide tax on gross receipts was due to be imposed in January after it was approved by voters three years ago.

But the recent spate of smash-and-grab robberies has led to city supervisors delaying the tax until December 31, 2022, in a bid to help retailers who are struggling to compete with illegal drug dealers.

Exactly. God forbid they suspend a gas tax so folks who have to drive to work can get a little break.

So a Californian can get Marijuana tax free, but not tools for a job, a computer, a truck... and that is supposed to make sense?

Is beer taxed? Whiskey? Bottled water?

Maybe the person who is responsible for this policy should cut back on the weed?

As if this relieves the pressure! Same amount of money at the same places = same target for theft.

The looters and/or their "fences" can afford to see the stolen goods at one-quarter the standard price (after all, they "came into possession" of the merchandise without paying anything) - so suspending the tax will hardly help the honest businessmen.

Yes, it's still something, but...

I will admit I get a perverse pleasure (in a Rickey Bobby sort of way) in seeing the “nice” crack dealers getting aced out by the “mean” crack dealers (or whatever)

We thought leftards are against tax cuts or breaks for the rich? After all they sure put a heavy tax % on the wacky weed sellers and buyers. They designate them as rich until they are not. Makes perfect illogical sense.

It’s a public service. Get ‘em high on stolen maryjane and they’ll only rob the chip aisle at convenience stores.

in a bid to help retailers who are struggling to compete with illegal drug dealers.

who will just lower there prices to compensate. The idea is to drive the state supported competition out of business.
