Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) shut down a Democrat gun control push Thursday, saying it would not prevent shootings but would hamper the law-abiding in exercising Second Amendment rights.
The Guardian notes the push came from Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT), who sought “unanimous consent on Thursday to pass the Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2021.” The Act would expand retail background checks so as to include private gun sales as well.

Thanks Heaven!
The D’s who tried this krap should be run out of Congress on the simple grounds that they have violated their Oaths of Office to uphold the US Constitution.
Actually, Grassley has been reasonably consistent concerning the second amendment.
Kabuki. Mutual back scratching. It’s common for the Senate to have a couple people on the floor (pre-arranged players). One of them asks for unanimous consent to pass something kooky. The other one objects, and that’s the end.
Both actors get play in the press. Mission accomplished.
Got a GOA alert about this yesterday. Lucky for some that Grassley objected or Universal Background Checks would have snuck in.
This would be extremely bad for the people of America.
The communists (formerly known as democrats) desperately want to disarm us. The first step is to legally document all guns and their owners. Once that is done an excuse will be made to confiscate said guns. After that comes the boxcars. History is indeed repeating for those astute enough to see it.
I know all regular Freepers are well aware of all this but it is worth repeating.
I think Joe’s last act as President will push to disarm all law abiding citizens ... of course they won’t disarm gang members, career criminals or “undocumented migrants” aka illegal aliens.
The once great state of Connecticut,, has followed suit with the lost empire state of New York in chasing firearms manufacturers outt of the state.
I think you’ll see wide-spread non-compliance should something like that come.....I don’t think the increase in legal owners over the past decade will be in a big hurry to comply with Joey Pudding-head.
If Joe Birdbrain tries to disarm the US. I believe some states will succeed .... Texas among them I hope
