Psychology is the study of the human mind. It’s a fascinating subject, one I spend a decent amount of time delving into. I’m interested in why people think and act the way they do.
Unfortunately, the study of psychology has some issues. A lot of studies simply can’t be replicated, which calls their findings into question, for one thing.
Luckily, one of the largest publications covering the field is on top of the problem. OK, not really. Instead, they’re going to tell us about how fear is driving our support for gun rights and offer suggestions on just how to bring gun control about.
No, seriously.
The main problem related to the discussion of gun control is that the beliefs and opinions of both sides are driven not by rational arguments but by emotions, more specifically by fear (Pierre, 2019). For one side, the main fear is that public safety is in danger due to the more than 390 million firearms in the United States (Karp, 2018); for the other side, there is the fear that we cannot defend ourselves in a cruel world if guns are taken away. Fear is a strong emotion, related to a loss of control. It can affect us by “freezing” opinions and beliefs. Therefore, it is unlikely to see dramatic changes in the opinions of both opposite sides or to see a comprehensive gun reform.

Attributed to Sigmund Freud, although never confirmed to have been actually said by him. Still, it certainly seems to be true.
If it were not for BLM riots, Antifa anarchy, rampant crime, ascendant communism, threats of white genocide and a suspicious wife, I’d consider giving up my guns. Until these threats go away, I think I’ll hang on to them.
Sounds like you’ll be guest of honor on a future edition of ID Discovery channel’s Wives with Knives.
Nothing like using your own irrational fear and ignorance to attempt to make a "rational" argument.
My wife, when she was alive always carried a Case XX pocket knife in her purse.
I don’t trust them.
And majority of the rest of their studies are pure BS.
About the only ones that are half way decent are the ones that prove something the leftist do not like because they actually do retesting on it to try to prove it wrong.
But mostly psychology and academia has done far more harm then good to society for the past one hundred years. Because they believe so much stuff that just is not so. And when their plans fail they then double down because they just can't be wrong.
The left grabbed control of the psychia6tric community first, way back in the 50’s. They’ve been using it as a tool to spread their propaganda ever since.
I trust nothing that emanates from that field of science anymore.
OH, and they’re damned right it’s motivated by fear, fear of people like them running the government.
Some people happily vote for people that will control them. WTAH? “Thank you sir may I have another!”
A movie quote I love is from Brad Pitt in the movie "Fury".
Ideals are peaceful; history is violent.
Sociologists?
All Socialists want to control everyone else. Yes, they think they are smarter than we the people are.
Totalitarianism in all forms is EVIL. And Globalist Totalitarianism is the Ultimate Evil. Directed by Satan himself.
Makes no difference. We will keep our arms. Period. Not negotiable.
They can pound sand.
no. gun rights stem from the same old Constitution that protected the gun rights of our greatgrandfathers.
what has changed is:
1. we have 36 hour a day information zervices, that must fill that top of the carrier wave with something, or they lose interest ratings, and money.
2. the same number of folks commiting crimes with guns, over the years, are now being broadcast 36 hours a day.
therefore, the psychologists have more to gripe about.
i have been aware of my gun rights since i was a boy scout.
i have exercised my gun rights, after exercising military gun rights in the Vietnam and Cold war.
i will continue to exercise my Constitutional gun rights, until that day.
there is no fear in this, but psychologists need some kind of fear of something, else they starve!
Roger that!
Purchasing an insurance policy must be driven by fear too, yet they tell us that’s the responsible thing to do.
It’s not emotion, it’s logistics.
Nothing new. They started pushing this anti-gun nonsense way back in 1963 just after John Kennedy was murdered by a Communist.
It really picked up speed in 1968 when Bobby Kennedy was murdered by a Palestinian Immigrant.
And it was always “Our fault”. Never the fault of the shooters.
Yup. Some of my shipmates and I bought some Beretta pistols in Naples on deployment. When we got back to home port after the RFK shooting we weren’t allowed to take our guns out of the armory. Took months because, stoopidness. Eventually they were released.
