"There are some who say you're never supposed to point a gun on anyone on a set no matter what," Stephanopoulos said.
"Unless the person is the cinematographer who's directing me at where to point the gun for her camera angle," Baldwin said. "That's exactly what happened."
Criticism of Baldwin has come from fellow actors, some of whom shared their own protocol using weapons while filming. George Clooney said recently that, "Every single time I'm handed a gun on a set -- every time they had me a gun -- I look at it, I open it, I show it to the person I'm pointing it to. We show it to the crew."
Baldwin took issue with Clooney's thinly veiled jab, calling it "misplaced."
"There were a lot of people who felt it necessary to contribute some comment to the situation, which really didn't help the situation at all," he said. "If your protocol is you checking the gun every time, well, good for you. Good for you."

BINGO
exactly
What Baldwin did
1. did not treat the weapon as loaded
2. did not verify supposedly unloaded weapon was unloaded
3. pointed said weapon at individual
4. As producer is walked away form his responsibility as producer for safety of set
5. more interested in saving his flabby progressive ass making amends for the individuals killed and wounded by his irresponsible actions
Then the bullet would not have entered the chamber...and been ready to fire.
I looked up Seth Kenney and found this interesting piece.
Have you spoken to your cousin about this mess?
If the live cartridge already under the hammer and Baldwin slipped before the cylinder indexed to the next chamber, that might explain it.
He would have to slip the hammer before it reached the half cock position.
This is all so ridiculous. Anyone who isn’t a big star or connected to the deep state would have been arrested by now for doing what he did.
Riiiiiight.
The gun was in your hand. You failed to check that it was not loaded. You pointed it at somebody. You cocked the hammer and pulled the trigger.
But you are not responsible for what happened. Somebody else is. uh huh.
A common criminal defense tactic is the "other guy" defense. Even if a defense attorney cannot make a plausible case against an "other guy," they often do all they can to foster dislike and suspicion by making an "other guy" appear to be a bad guy. Baldwin and Reed appear to be setting Seth up as their "other guy," with Baldwin tacitly blaming the prop gun that Seth provided as somehow defective and Thell Reed -- no doubt with defense lawyer approval -- smearing Seth as, in effect, stealing a supply of live ammo by not returning what was left over from a session of target practice.
Published reports though indicate that on the weekend before the accidental shooting, the crew had been firing live rounds in the desert near the set using one or more of the prop guns. This could easily account for one or more live rounds being left in the prop gun or mixed into its ammo supply when it was prepped by the on-set armorer and eventually handed to Baldwin.
Between the supplier of the prop guns (Seth Kenney) and the on set armorer (Hannah Gutierrez-Reed), who seems more likely to have permitted and facilitated the crew's recreational live ammo firing for fun? Obviously, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the on set armorer -- using ammo supplied by her father, Thell Reed.
In any event, it seems that because the fatal bullet apparently came from one of Thell Reed's reloads of a dummy round casing in a gun prepped by his daughter as armorer, he felt a need to offer up Seth publicly as a potential source for that round. Otherwise, the most logical inference is that Reed himself provided such live ammo directly to his daughter.
My guess is that the essential facts of the shooting will be determined and blame properly assessed within a few months. After several decades of development of criminal justice as an academic discipline and the refinement of forensic science, cops are now pretty good at processing crime scenes and interrogating witnesses. The old tactic of figuring out who looks guilty and then bullying them into a confession is now mostly barred by courts anyway.
Strangely, very few posts directed at the most salient part of this entire carnival - how did the freaking live round get into the revolver in the first place? Accident or armorer misfeasance? That’s where the blame actually lies. There is an outside chance that someone wanted to destroy Baldwin’s career, but if so, how would they know he would pull the trigger while aiming it at someone and were all the chambers loaded with live rounds? The assistant director shouted that the gun was safe, yet this is not standard practice when handing over a weapon on set to an actor. If that was done to give Baldwin a false sense of security so that he didn’t feel a need to check the gun, then the assistant director was in on it. I think that suspicion should fall on him.
Yes, passing the buck is the game for now. And who wouldn’t?
Did Arec Barwin get a breath-alyzer or blood draw when law enforcement arrived?
I'm betting that this historically drunken sot had no drug testing or incarceration after this murder. Robert Blake, anyone?
I give mega kudos to anybody willing to front the $ for an non-PC CW film that required gathering 100s of galloping horses and riders. I salute any man or woman who can get a horse to jump a fence at a gallop, big time. Get 100+ of them together for a CW epic, & my hat is off.
This film RWTD caused me to purchase several books on the Missouri CW. I had not known, for example, that the long hair was not a 1999 Hollywood affectation. Rather, Quantrill’s men took an oath not to cut their hair until the war was won. An easy pledge in 1861, that they kept to the bitter end. What a movie. Flaws and all, I’ll watch it again and again.
Sounds likely.
Nope, wrong answer.
Even if a psycho assassin or Satan or Lucifer substituted an entire bogus duplicate revolver, with live ammo, on the “prop gun” table,
THAT WOULD NOT EXCUSE BALDWIN FROM CHECKING THE CONDITION OF THE GUN HIS OWN DAM SELF.
You pick up any kind of gun, point it a a human, and shoot them, IT IS ON YOU.
Your cousin will no doubt be part of the goulash, but my guess is the defense attorney will attempt to try “the inherently unsafe SA revolver” as the culprit.
SA’s are a mystery even to 90% of shooters. To non-shooters, you might as well be talking about using “Single-Phase Targon Z-Ray Lasers on Planet Q.”
It will be easy for the defense to bamboozle and befuddle the non-shooter jury over subtle and mysterious SA revolver mechanisms.
By the time the jury acquits Baldwin, they will be more than ready to indict Samuel Colt for his dangerous invention.
I once knew a prosecutor with an avuncular manner who, in hot cases, used to introduce himself to suspects under arrest by saying that the cops were putting a long list of charges together and that the suspect could clam up and exercise his right to silence and a lawyer or he could try to explain what had happened right now to him and a court reporter.
Unwittingly, suspects would often talk and reveal key details that turned an apparent bar fight or street argument into a first degree murder charge. Unschooled in the law, suspects might not realize that the SOB-had-it-coming is not a valid defense for sticking a knife into someone during a dispute.
American criminal and civil law characteristically impose primary liability based on immediate or proximate causes in the form of a violation of a duty of care, with those responsible for remote and contributing causes often being cleared or suffering only minor sanction. My guess is that unless Seth provided the live round, he gets to walk. Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed are in great jeopardy though because they are closer to and directly involved in the fatal shooting and violated safety rules.
Yes
Wade is a Quantrill fan as u can imagine
