Five cases of the COVID-19 omicron variant have been detected in the New York City area, Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Thursday evening.
Hochul said they account for the only five known cases in teh state thus far and include one in Brooklyn, two in Queens and one in Long Island’s Suffolk County. A fifth was pegged to “New York City” by the officials but without a more precise location.
The Long Island patient, a 67-year-old woman, had recently returned from South Africa, Hochul said. She tested positive on Nov. 30, according to the governor.

so what???? This nation has reached the stage where the pandemic is over. Between the total vaccinated plus the total with natural immunity because they have had the virus we are out of the woods and should proceed with no limitations. The new virus is mild and those who get it will be over it quickly and add to the natural immunity total.
Remember the mortality rate is extremely low and the cure rate is extremely high.

They still talk about “cases”. Nothing about hospitalizations or deaths. So mild symptoms of lethargy make this nothing more than normal seasonal flu.

This is how viruses burn themselves out. But moving through the population and mutating to more and more benign forms. Not by forcing everyone to wear masks and get vaxed, and shutting down schools and businesses.
Why the hell aren't we sending everyone out to get infected like we used to do with chicken pox when we were kids?

From what I’ve read and seen this is a relatively mild variant. That might change, but it also may bring us closer to herd immunity- if that actually exists.
The doc in SA credited with “discovering” this has written about her patients experience with it- more like a cold or regular flu. None of her patients required hospitalization.
We’ll see.
The threat from this new variant is existential and the only way to overcome it is for the government to take away all our civil liberties.
