PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The warming of the planet is taking a deadly toll on seabirds that are suffering population declines from starvation, inability to reproduce, heat waves and extreme weather.
Climate-related losses have hit albatrosses off the Hawaiian islands, northern gannets near the British Isles and puffins off the Maine coast. Some birds are less able to build nests and raise young as sea levels rise, while others are unable to find fish to eat as the ocean heats up, researchers have found.
Common murres and Cassin’s auklets that live off the West Coast have also died in large numbers from conditions scientists directly tied to global warming.
With less food, rising seas that encroach on islands where birds roost and increasingly frequent hurricanes that wipe away nests, many seabirds have been producing fewer chicks, researchers say.
And tern species that live off New England have died during increasing rain and hailstorms scientists link to climate change. Some species, including endangered roseate terns, also can’t fledge chicks because more frequent severe weather kills their young, said Linda Welch, a biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
It’s difficult to precisely determine the population loss to wide-ranging seabirds and how much is attributable to climate change. But one estimate by researchers from University of British Columbia stated that seabird populations have fallen 70% since the mid-20th century.

I have been losing at my neighborhood poker game lately. I think that’s due to Climate Change. Wait. On second thought, I know it’s due to Climate Change.
What other reason could there be?
“estimate” = We don’t have any idea....
Don’t drink the beer....
I hear they taste like chicken, so what’s the problem?
To qoute Dementia Joe, “What a bunch of malarkey.”
“Some birds are less able to build nests and raise young as sea levels rise,”
Sea level rise 6 inches in the last 100 years. OMG is it impossible to believe that people so stupid can exist. How long does it take a bird to move its nest 6 inches? 100 years?
Apparently they will only give up on the global warming hoax after all of their goals have been achieved. But what are their goals? Besides having us all eat bugs, not drive cars, not heat our homes, not mow our lawns, love in 250 sq ft hovels, and bow down to the great-reset global elite. Maybe then they’ll give it a rest.
Is the author sure it isn’t CONvid? From what I read these days there’s virtually NOTHING CONvid can’t disrupt. Maybe the author should go hang out with the sea fowl.
The Associated Propaganda only accepts and hires card carrying leftists.
This kind of journalism is what killed Pravda and led to the dissolution of the Soviet system.
State sponsored propaganda is so obvious to the average reader. These political operatives posing as journalists are about to be destroyed by their own pens.
Silent Spring 2.
99.999999% of all species that have ever lived on this planet are extinct.
Before liberals created the Climate Death Star.
Birds are too dumb to move their nests up a few inches. Right!
Seagulls are doing fine; they’re all at Walmart.
My money is on a virus that killed the birds or an infectious bacterium. The information leaves this small piece of data omitted.
Global Warming/Climate Change is a complete lie.
There is absolutely no doubt that the bird population of the United States is dramatically less than it was a century ago. But, there is no scientific consensus on the cause, and certainly NONE on what to do about it, if anything.
I have been a life-long watcher of birds in nature (not informed enough to call myself a real “bird-watcher). It is clear that in many areas bird populations are at very low levels.
The Darwinian axiom of “survival of the fittest” means the more adaptable examples of a given species have more room into which to expand, as the weaker are eliminated. Inducing total extinction of any breed is a much harder proposition than the alarmists make it out to be.
Unless, of course, there is an anthropogenic cause, that may be remedied by imposing huge restrictions and onerous taxation.

More birds die from windmill strikes than global warming.
