Actor Matthew McConaughey announced on Sunday that he will not run to be the next governor of Texas, a decision that came despite a push from left-wing media for the actor to challenge Republican Governor Greg Abbott.
McConaughey, 52, had previously called for law-abiding citizens to “take one for the team” and give up some of their Second Amendment rights, and he had praised far-left Democrat Beto O’Rourke, calling him a “good man.” McConaughey also said that he had a problem with a recent Texas law that protects unborn babies.
“Listen, over the past two years, I’ve been working on the answer to the question of how I can be most useful in this life going forward — useful to myself, useful to my family, and to the most amount of people,” he said in a video posted to his Instagram account. “One category of service I’ve been exploring is politics. I’ve been considering a run for the governor of Texas.”
McConaughey said that he learned the following while exploring a potential run for governor:
- “Our politics needs new purpose.”
- “We have divides that need healing.”
- “We need more trust in our lives.”
- “We got to start shining a light on our shared values, the ones that cross party lines, the ones that build bridges instead of burn them.”
- “Our children are our greatest asset, so, hey, let’s be as good of parents as we can be.”
- “That freedom comes with responsibility, and that great leaders serve.”
“As a simple kid born in the little town, Uvalde, Texas, it never occurred to me that I would one day be considered for political leadership. It’s a humbling and inspiring path to ponder,” he added. “It is also a path that I’m choosing not to take at this moment.”

Something irredeemably smarmy about that man. I’d abstain before voting for him. He makes my skin crawl.

In a 3-way race against Abbott and beta, he could’ve thrown it to beta. Glad to see.

2A supporters have been “taking one for the team” in a manner that would make Jenna Jameson blush since 1934. That being said... Let’s Go Matthew!!!

Most people here hate Abbott, but beta is more hated. McConaughey could’ve stripped off some mainstream voters just by name.

He’s concerned about people wanting to save unborn babies but talks about children as our greatest asset. Something definitely doesn’t compute.

He should just keep his stinking pie-hole shut.
- “Our politics needs new purpose.” Yes. Like actually following the Constitution.
- “We have divides that need healing.” That will never happen as long as Leftists profit from division. Your party is responsible. Which means you are.
- “We need more trust in our lives.” Ahh. Really. More "trust" so people in YOUR party can take advantage of it?
- “We got to start shining a light on our shared values, the ones that cross party lines, the ones that build bridges instead of burn them.” There was only one party out there burning bridges for the last 11 years, and it was your party. And not just bridges. Buildings, businesses, court houses, houses, people...
- “Our children are our greatest asset, so, hey, let’s be as good of parents as we can be.” Oh. Like poisoning them with vaccinations they don't need and are harmful to them, forcing them to wear useless masks, keeping them out of school, or teaching them to be racists with your CRT indoctrination, or pumping them full of idiocy about homosexuality and transgenderism? That kind of good parenting?
- “That freedom comes with responsibility, and that great leaders serve.” At a great profit, of course, with all the best inside trading information and bribes from the Communist Chinese.

Absolutely no one thought he would run. I can hardly believe his praise of O’Rourke. It kind of goes to show you.
