Germany said on Sunday it was continuing to work closely with the United States on implementing a deal on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which runs under the Baltic Sea and carries gas from Russia to Germany.

Germany's foreign ministry said it continued to coordinate closely with the U.S. administration on implementing a joint declaration on the $11 billion pipeline.

...

The document also said Nord Stream 2 presented "no threat to Ukraine as long as reasonable gas transit is ensured," and referred to potential sanctions on the pipeline as "a victory for Putin" as it would divide Western allies, Axios added.

Putin WILL send Russian gas through Ukraine or there will be Hell to pay.

Being as Ukraine has no gas, and neither has Europe, it's the Europeans that will be paying.

Why do the Germans have to work with us on the pipeline. Did Biden have to work with Germany before he cancelled Keystone?

Is Germany subsidizing US defense? Is Germany financing the military of a potential US adversary in Putinist Russia?

Maybe because we pour billions into supposedly defending Germany from its new pipeline business partner?

So it doesn't look like Germany is extorting the rest of Europe, and the Bidens aren't skimming and soliciting bribes in Ukraine.

You beat me to it. A pipeline from Russia to Germany should be of no interest to the United States. Oops! I forgot that the United States just has to stick its nose in every last thing.

I think the negotiations on this were completed (done and over) a while back. Trump had sanctions on Russia. Biden removed them. So much for restricting fossil fuels.

I believe this line does NOT go through Unkaine.

“..referred to potential sanctions on the pipeline as “a victory for Putin” as it would divide Western allies, Axios added.”

Actually, the removal of sanctions is already dividing European nations (and this has been predicted).

France and some other EU nations want to build more nuclear power plants to ensure a reliable supply of clean electricity. These nations want the EU to certify nuclear power as a ‘green’ source of energy (important in the EU).

Germany is relying on a future with Russian natural gas to back up solar and wind power. Germany is trying to force the EU to scuttle nuclear power plants everywhere in Europe. Germany is the big dog in the EU and there’s a good chance the EU bureaucracy will bow down to Germany.

Really? Who is going to “make them pay?” Russia can easily say, “Nordstream II or freeze in the dark. “ Then what?

Shut the pipeline down with those nasty fossil fuels and start your electric blankets.

It will. NSII was built specifically to finish the Ukrainian racket over transit fees and siphoning the gas for their own needs.

The only chance for the Ukrainian transit to continue is if someone (Germans or Biden) agrees to compensate whatever Ukraine steals and transit fees.

If Europe and Biden are serious about having Ukraine in their orbit, they need to do it. Russia is not going to sponsor their clients.
