South African Doctor Who Raised Alarm About Omicron Variant: 'Symptoms Were So Different And So Mild'(rerun?)

The first South African doctor to alert the authorities about patients with the omicron variant has told The Telegraph that the symptoms of the new variant are unusual but mild.

Dr Angelique Coetzee said she was first alerted to the possibility of a new variant when patients in her busy private practice in the capital Pretoria started to come in earlier this month with Covid-19 symptoms that did not make immediate sense.

They included young people of different backgrounds and ethnicities with intense fatigue and a six-year-old child with a very high pulse rate, she said. None suffered from a loss of taste or smell.

“Their symptoms were so different and so mild from those I had treated before,” said Dr Coetzee, a GP for 33 years who chairs the South African Medical Association alongside running her practice.

On November 18, when four family members all tested positive for Covid-19 with complete exhaustion, she informed the country’s vaccine advisory committee.

She said, in total, about two dozen of her patients have tested positive for Covid-19 with symptoms of the new variant. They were mostly healthy men who turned up “feeling so tired”. About half of them were unvaccinated.

“We had one very interesting case, a kid, about six years old, with a temperature and a very high pulse rate, and I wondered if I should admit her. But when I followed up two days later, she was so much better,” Dr Coetzee says.

These official sources from Botswana and South Africa are scrambling to stop the isolation of their countries. They could be seeing 50% death rates and would still say this.

The Netherlands has 60 cases so far. Let’s see what happens there.

If this new variant causes a relatively mild infection, those who who become infected with it may develop immunity to the more virulent strains of COVID-19. This new variant may turn out to be a blessing. Most of Africa has been spared from the COVID epidemic. Africans may have been chronically exposed to many didderent coronaviruses and may have cross immunity to COVID19.

Not to mention the widespread use of Hydroxychlorquine and Ivermectin over the years. That may have helped them as well.

If it is both mild and highly contagious, bring it on! It is possible that it would induce natural immunity to multiple variants that is far superior to anything we’ve been able to do with COVID vaccines.

From another article:

All the 'travel' cases caught are from vaccinated people, correct? They wouldn't be able to travel unless vaccinated.

So out of around 500 people, 61 have a form of Covid, and at least 13 have Omicron. Interesting, seems like there should be a deeper dive into why over 10% of travelers have Covid who were either tested prior to travel, vaccinated prior, etc.

So this is the version that ends the pandemic and makes the Vaccines useless, so we have to keep it away at all costs.

Xi the Poo is going to be sad they didn’t name it after him.

It seems like a fool's errand to try to use testing to stop infected people from carrying it to other lands on airplanes. From Norton Healthcare...
It can take almost a week after exposure to COVID-19 to have a positive test result.

If you are fully vaccinated, you should wait three to five days after exposure before getting a test. Evidence suggests that testing tends to be less accurate within three days of exposure. Wear a mask in public indoor settings for 14 days or until you get a negative test result.

If you aren’t fully vaccinated, quarantine right away after you’ve been exposed to someone with COVID-19. If you develop symptoms, get tested right away. Otherwise, wait five to seven days.

COVID-19’s incubation period lasts up to 14 days. If you have the virus, it takes time to build up in your system. Early testing can result in samples that don’t contain enough of the virus’ genetic material to show a positive result. A COVID-19 test is limited in that it represents only a snapshot in time. A negative PCR test for COVID-19 does not mean that an individual is free of infection, but rather that, at that particular moment, the sample did not contain viral levels at a high enough concentration to be measured as a positive.

Because of all these time lags, it's easy to see how infected/not yet contagious and infected/contagious people board planes.

Treatment? None? Doesn’t say, does it?

Yeah, that is curious. Those people also wandered around the airport on arrival.

It’s also curious that arrivals are getting tested. The standard test CAN identify Omicron, unlike the need for genomic sequencing for Delta. But why were they all tested on arrival?

There is too much action too fast. The word on this variant has been out LONG before the public was told anything at all. Danger level must be very high.

Why would you expect an unnatural, artificial virus out of China to be stopped by a natural immunity process it was designed to circumvent?

‘They could be seeing 50% death rates and would still say this.’

or, they could be seeing microscopic death rates and are simply telling the truth...

‘The Netherlands has 60 cases so far. Let’s see what happens there.’

breathlessly hoping, are you...?

So it’s likely seasonal flu, not Covid.

‘This again???’

of course; our our politico/medico community doesn’t want to have to work any harder than necesary to frighten our effeminate society...can’t make hay with low death rates and hospitaliations...
