WASHINGTON - Judge Clarence Thomas said at his Supreme Court confirmation hearings in 1991 that he hadn't given that much thought to whether Roe v. Wade was correctly decided.
But Justice Clarence Thomas took only months to reach a conclusion: the landmark 1973 ruling guaranteeing a woman's right to abortion should be discarded.
“The power of a woman to abort her unborn child" is not a liberty protected by the Constitution, said a dissenting opinion from four members of the court, including Thomas.
Thus began three decades of official Thomas opposition to the notion of a constitutionally protected right to abortion.
It will reach its zenith Wednesday, when Thomas and the most conservative Supreme Court in decades will consider a restrictive Mississippi abortion law that opponents and advocates alike agree is almost impossible to square with Roe and the precedents that have flowed from it.
The review coincides as well with something of a high-water mark for the 73-year-old Thomas, now the court's longest-serving member. He sits on a court with more justices who think like him than at any other point in his career.

Sadly, I have no faith in Kav and Barrett to do the right thing and pull off the scab that is Roe v. Wade. They’re establishment hacks through and through. I’d love for them to prove me wrong on this, though.
Roe is bad law.
I’m thinking that we might get a win here. Not because its the right thing to do, but because infanticide is no longer the draw for the right that it once was. People have figured out that it’s just another issue that the gop would milk 3months before an election and then completely ignore until 3 months before the next election. Its no longer the sucker bait for conservatives it was 20 years ago.
I read Roe from beginning to end about 20 years ago.
It is pure BS, smoke to arrive at a predetermined outcome.
IIRC, Blackmun found the right nestled somewhere in up to three amendments.
In addition to extra-judicial killing, one generation does not have the right to ‘off the next generation, and with it, our republic.
And these blacks will figure that out when they start asking themselves why Planned Parenthood has managed to keep getting billions of dollars in taxpayer funds even from governments that are supposedly controlled by white “conservatives.”
Get a clue, black people. Those white Republicans see every dollar sent to Planned Parenthood as a major investment in their future.
Gosh… who nominated these two.
I love Trump but he made lot of bad choices when it comes to personnel.
Roe and the precedents that have flowed from it.
Poison fruit of a poison tree.
It has cost millions of lives!
