Darn shame they discontinued the Pinto.
There was also a gap in the ford f series.
They didn’t make a 1998 model. Went from 1997 to 1999 f-250 and 350. Maybe there was a 150. Not sure on that.
Where’s the Pontiac Firebird? Didn’t it run 35 years with no gap? 1967-2002
“Darn shame they discontinued the Pinto.”
Especially after its hilariously memorable bit part in the movie “Top Secret”!
“ They can have my Dodge Ram Diesel when they pry it from my bloody fingers!”
**************
Their plan is not to take away your Ram diesel or my Silverado 6.2L. We will be allowed to keep them. Their strategy is to force the price of diesel and gasoline up so high that we won’t be able to afford to drive them.
The base model 79 Pinto had a sticker price of $1995. The invoice was around $1850.
I still recall the gnashing of teeth when an F150 could no longer be purchased for under 10K in the early eighties.
Vette no production in 1985.
1985=1983. Sigh, more coffee please miss
No mention of the C-130, which they still pop out two per month.
The Mini entry says that it was 62 years from 1959 to 2000.
Um, yes it was. Same frame, doors, the works.
I used to work on both. The only difference for a long while in the mil spec models was Mercedes had an excellent 5 cylinder diesel while the 90 had the 4 that was in Taxis.
The 4 was indestructible and could run on anything but had something like 65 hp and was just painful in a heavy vehicle.
Now is there a material difference between the mil spec defender and the G wagon? Yes, they’ve drifted far apart..
They seem to have forgotten the Ford E-series vans from 1961. Those are all over the world.
No, it’s not the same frame, doors, etc. I have a Euro car repair company as a client and while they do look vaguely similar, they definitely aren’t the same car. Have had them side by side up on lifts a number of times - not at all the same.
Not any more, sure.
They were originally just different versions of the official nato vehicle.
Not even made by Mercedes but Pusch.
They were designed to have interchangeable parts in the event of war.
Morgan has been making the same car for over 80 years...
Agreed. I would have thought the CJ/Wrangler as a continuum.
And the Toyota Landcruiser's heir should be the FJ Cruiser (albeit of interrupted lineage), not the bloated MAV (Mall Assault Vehicle) of the 2000's to present.
Great deal!
I wish people could see a meme of an electric car towing behind it how much coal it would take to power it in a week.
This is more about keeping the names of cars for years.
Very cool article. Well done post as well.
