Philadelphia Surpasses Murder Record Set in 1990

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Friday, broke its murder record with 501 murders, surpassing the record of 500 homicides set in 1990.
According to local Philadelphia station ABC 6, the last murder occurred around 9 pm in the 7100 block of Ardleigh Street in East Mount Airy, bringing the total to 501.
Police say a man in his 30s was shot five times and rushed to the hospital. He was later pronounced dead. So far, no arrests have been made.

Big rivalry like football is on. Chicago violent crime versus Philadelphia.
New idea: try to step up law enforcement on obvious criminal types plus keep prisoners in prison longer and reduce the number of victims.
Nah, it’ll never catch on.
An interview with a police official during a law and order period (remember back then?) had the line “I think part of the reduced crime rate is due to mandatory sentencing. When more of the repeat offenders are still locked up in prison, they aren’t out victimizing citizens. Less crime.”
