Walnut Creek is a quiet exurban town outside of San Francisco. It uncharacteristically made national news over the last few days, and not for anything good. It was the scene of a large-scale smash and grab in the wake of the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict.
Over a dozen vehicles pulled up to the Broadway Plaza shopping mall. Some eighty vandals, some wielding crowbars, ran inside Nordstrom and stole merchandise. Five Nordstrom employees were physically assaulted.
The action was said to be over in less than a minute. With their bounty in hand, estimated at $200,000, the thieves drove off in different directions. Only three were apprehended. Of those, one was illegally carrying a firearm.
The media has omitted the race of the perpetrators, a policy that ironically makes race even more salient. Video footage shows the perpetrators were black. Eyewitness accounts confirm that. And the same tactic and demographic makeup were seen at the Louis Vuitton smash and grab earlier in San Francisco.
The neighborhood blogs are filled with discussions. Liberals predictably claim this is because of the divide between the haves and have nots. Others have opined that it is part of the no justice, no peace result of the Rittenhouse verdict. And, of course, there was the inevitable search for root causes, which are always looked for and never really found, at least not empirically.
The cause few want to talk about is what happened at the same mall during the George Floyd riots, in June of 2020. Then our police and civic leaders decided to have the police stand in place. Macy’s was ransacked by hordes of young people who sometimes fought among themselves because some were perceived to have acquired better loot than others.

Urban Christmas Shopping. And a good time was had by all.
There was once a time when looters were shot. It is where the phrase ‘reading the riot act’ comes from.
Its Christmas and Tiny Tim is pissed over the small goose.
Sad part is that selective law enforcement and selective prosecution will punish those so inclined to protect their property from the ferals.
Speaking of Geese. Have you ever been chased by a Goose? They’re a mean I tell you.
Forget food.
The poor deprived children need material luxuries.
Kinda giving a new definition to “black friday”.
I was attacked by some geese on our small farm in Torrance when I was three years old. I’ve never forgotten it.
The Nordstrom a few blocks from my house in the Seattle suburbs was looted a couple days after George Floyd died.
The retail value of just their stolen cosmetics was close to $1 million!
Black gangs from Seattle looted our entire mall.
Our local Police were told to stand down, and they did.
I walked by our (closed) mall this Thanksgiving evening and realized that they have installed massive pull down steel barriers behind every main entry way.
They also had local police cars on the sidewalk blocking every fire exit.
Crazy!
Swift capture, swift justice, swift execution.
Harsh?... Effective!
They looted our mall in our beautiful little town. They’ve caught almost all of the major idiots who bragged on social media. Some 70 people in addition to that. Read them the “Riot Act” indeed…
People who live within x miles of welfare reservations realize malls are no safer than a NYC subway train; online shopping, accelerated by the scamdemic, has eliminated yet another place makers could be set upon by takers. Here in NJ malls are much more focused on food than anything else; as retail outlets they are dead. Never mind the risk of feral attacks; how many times can you go to a store and find out they don’t have what you need? If you order it to the store, you pick it up without ever rubbing shoulders with the wild ones...
it really wouldn’t surprise me any if at least some of this organized looting involves the owners of the stores. They pay someone to set up the looting spree, they turn in big insurance claims, they split the profits on the sale of the stolen merchandise with the looters. Maybe even the cops are getting paid off. Where there is crime this brazen and out of control there is something more sinister going on than mere theft.
The black community is so broken. I feel really bad for those who try to make a positive difference to then see mobs of blacks raiding businesses night after night.
Must be embarrassing to folks like Candace Owens, Ben Carson, Larry Elder. It’s embarrassing to watch videos of this nonsense. Really looks tribal, like a pack of hyenas.
Imagine if you tried to protect your business. It would likely turn from mob looting to murder.
I think it’s wrong to call this looting, and not for any stupid ‘racist’ reasons. Looting is a mob, these have been very organized. Team arrives in enough vehicles to get their stolen goods away, hit all at once, work quickly, and are out before the police can arrive in force. Carefully planned, professionally executed.
I’ll tell you how this can be fixed. Google “Jim Cirillo” and “NYC Stakeout Squad”.
Until we send the message that lawlessness will not be tolerated and will in fact be punished, the behavior will continue.
It’s past time.
looting everywhere.
. . . and the Bookstores are untouched.
every time
An unfortunate goose once came after a friend of mine while he was turkey hunting. He of course, had a shotgun. He came home with a turkey and a goose.
Yes I have. It went after the calf of one of my companions. I avoid those things whenever possible.
