Mario Cordero, executive director of the Port of Long Beach, cites “significant progress” at California ports. Cordero said that the twin ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, which account for 40% of sea freight entering the United States, are working around the clock to offload containers. Since the announcement of the new fees, which have yet to be imposed, both ports have seen the lingering containers reduced by 33%.

Aren’t the containers just being moved onto CA and FED properties in the area? If so, not much is being resolved as far as the US consumer is concerned.

I was at Huntington beach the other day, and holy crap, those giant frigging container ships were right off the coast there.

As a side note, Catalina Island visible big as day. The guy in the pier gift shop said the Santa Ana winds had cleared the smog away the day before.

I sat through a very interring presentation a few weeks ago by a group of lawyers who specialize in transportation contract law.

The consensus among them was that the penalties and fines in LA/LB would never hold up under a legal challenge in the vast majority of cases, and they were advising their clients not to pay them.

I wonder how long it’s going to take conservatives to get their mojo back, stop whining about everything, take chances and be productive.

Translation: One ship got unloaded, and only 7,300 remain at anchor.

“both ports have seen the lingering containers reduced by 33%”

could that be because they just remain on the ships floating around in the nearby ocean instead?

Monkey Werx counted a bunch more the other day so its doubtful they have speeded up. The back log offshore at least is worse.

Exactly that. They’ve been moved OUT of the terminal, and to somewhere else. And that’s all they care, they can show the numbers and say “SEE! We’re doing OUR part!”.
