A group of House Republicans has issued a truly terrifying warning that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) could be laying the groundwork for a backdoor federal gun registry.
Republican Rep. Michael Cloud of Texas sent a letter to acting ATF Director Marvin Richardson that was signed by 51 of his colleagues. Fox News reported that in the letter, the Republicans expressed the fears that they have about a proposed rule by the agency that they think could eventually lead to a backdoor gun registry around Congress’ prohibition.
The rule in question, which was proposed recently, removes a 20-year burn date that the federal firearms licensees must abide by that requires them to preserve firearm purchase records older than two decades. Though this may not seem like a huge deal, the federal licensees are required to submit their records to the ATF after they close shop, which means the rule would make it so that every American gun owner’s record would eventually end up in the ATF’s hands.
“The Biden administration is yet again ignoring the real threats against America and instead using political leverage to encroach on the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens,” Cloud said. “This proposed rule would be a giant leap toward a federal firearm registry, which is explicitly banned by law. Requiring federal firearm licensees to preserve records older than 20 years will enable the Biden administration to collect more information on law-abiding gun owners, all with the purpose of eventually having a registry of every gun owner in the United States...”

Republicans have always known this could happen. When they had the house, senate, white house...they did NOTHING in foresight to guard against something like this.
Ban the ATF, not firearms.
I can’t recall what it was like before 2008, as I bought firearms at gun shows and from friends. But since then every gun had to be called in and FBI approved. You mean to say they somehow didn’t keep records? Keeping records is the very first and most important job of government. And, they didn’t keep any records? I’ve known former government people in industry to keep records even though they aren’t necessary because...that’s what they do. I’ve had to clean out several offices of these people and they record EVERYTHING.

Republicans have always known this could happen. When they had the house, senate, white house...they did NOTHING in foresight to guard against something like this.

I think this has been underway with both Republicans (RINOS) and Democrats for years. It is simply a campaign fundraising topic for Republicans, just like national reciprocity and abortion has been for too many years.

Don’t worry, the GOP is on the case protecting your rights. Why, I’ve heard rumors that right now they are considering writing a strongly worded letter! What more could we ask for?
I think they already have the info.
I think that's because most elected republican officials actually want federal gun registration. Look at Obamacare. How many campaigned on overturning it but when it came time more than have of the republicans voted to keep it. I think the gun registry fight is a scam too. If it comes up for a vote, they will leap on it for "the greater good" as fast as Harvey Weinstein on a young upcoming actress.

They have a registry. The ATF records all back ground checks, and ends up getting copies of most, if not all 4473.
Then they track what you buy, and where. So when you get dies, loaded rounds, or other items, the banks, CC companies, and other firms report them to the State.
They (.gov) know what you have, how often you shoot, and where you go to shoot.
And that does concern them.
Both “sides” use the gun issue to GOTV and as a red herring distraction issue. Meanwhile, the Uniparty steals our country via open borders and blue state migration.
Shortly, this debate will be moot because the Marxist Dems will be able to win without cheating in places like GA, FL and TX.
How many of those Republicans have pushed for the impeachment of ChiComjoe, Kamalamadingdong, and every member of the line of presidential succession?!?

the fbi background checks are supposed to be destroyed but there is no penalty for not doing it.
