There were just articles last month about predictions of power shortages this winter
What a disappointment Boris has turned out to be
Makes far more sense to require geothermal heating/cooling.
It’s rather ironic that BoJo is prattling on and on about the dynamism of the private sector, how innovation is the hallmark of the private sector, how capitalism generates wealth and creativity...then he commands “EVs! Chargers! Solar! Wind! Kill coal and oil!”
Relatively easy to do in the USA by essentially running another 240 volt NEMA four-wire connection into the garage. Hard to do in the UK due to the lack of garages in many houses.
Boris is the British idea of a conservative.
Believe it or not yes, they are looking into it and have suggested building like 6 current 1000mw plants and are looking into Gen4 Plants. If you don't know what they are research them, fascanating tech, micro, small, medium plants, one as small as a hot water heater using all sorts of cooling and meltdown free tech.
Also look into "Lightbridge" (LTBR) out of England and their fuel assembly that looks like a licorice stick (twisted) Interesting retrofit for existing plants, the stock has done well (Not investment advice) this past year.
Surprising they let the serfs think they may be able to drive cars. Or, perhaps the Uber drones could need a top up while picking them up?

Blacks are not doing poorly in the USA. By world standards every American is immensely wealthy. By American standards they are as a group at the bottom of the economic ladder. That is as a result of the government plantation, in my mind.
If you took all the votes from the last election and counted those same votes again, then the results would be the same. If, however, you counted only votes in the way legislatures had already arranged, and forbade last minute changes for covid by judges and others, then the real results would show Trump the winner.
So, in other words, only the fabulously wealthy will be able to charge their cars at home...and have enough money to pay an electric bill that will make everyone else beggars.
Her higher education paid off
NOT
“a WALL PLUG can be a car charger, if you are patient ....”
Maybe all they’re mandating is a high-wattage outlet in the garage. Homeowners might want to choose their charger.
From what I understand, these charging outlets are 240 volt, 50 amp. 145,000 of them running every night for hours. Then if they go full green, that means everyone needs batteries to store that power for night time charging use.
Right now it’s coal fired, a lot of it. But no matter, it appears UK is all in for the full catastrophe. Cold and hungry in the dark— build back better, right.
Why not gas pumps?
Good luck with it all.
PBS special on damming rivers in Bosnia and Albania, the last ‘wild’ rivers in Europe.
The natives who would be flooded out are not happy.
And the landscape would be forever changed.
That was my first thought.
Of course when you sell your home without a car charger, they will probably say “It isn’t up to code”.
It is for our own good, dontcha know.
Actually switching all residential AC service from 120v to 220v would be a noble goal. It will never happen....
Yes, beatings will continue until morale improves. :-)
The mother of an ex-boss of mine made a comment one time that sums up what these people think of the middle class. She and her husband Jack were well traveled.
Jack and I go on these trips and noticed the workers in other countries don't have cars or nice houses and they seem perfectly happy. Why can't OUR workers be like that?
With emphasis on OUR as to imply ownership of sorts. TPTB including politicians and corporate leaders don't think us lowly 'workers' deserve to drive cars, live in a decent single family house with heat and AC. It should be multi-family, poorly maintained dwellings or dirt villages for us. Bicycles, walk, take public transportation.
