A pastoral message on the Rittenhouse acquittal
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America ^ | 19 November A.D. 2021 | Elizabeth A. Eaton

Posted on 11/19/2021 5:32:09 PM PST by lightman

Dear church,

In the book of Leviticus we read: "You shall not render an unjust judgment; you shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great: with justice you shall judge your neighbor" (19:15).

Our social message on Community Violence urges us to become more involved in countering the reality and fear of violence in our communities and our neighbors' communities, pursuing justice and seeking peace no matter how long the journey or complex the challenge.

When a child is allowed to become a vigilante in our society without recourse, we are forced to confront the idols of our society: guns, violence and white supremacy. To be sure, this is not about one person, but indeed about all of us, together.

Today's acquittal is an injustice. It points to the disorder in which we all live. As we seek to restore justice, so also will we restore God to God's rightful place at the center of our life together.

In Christ, The Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton

Presiding Bishop Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

Women cannot be bishops. The Bible says so. End of discussion, this is no more of a pastoral letter than I would write and I’m not Lutheran.

A woman pastor.

It figures.

A verse of Scripture for her to consider…..

Proverbs 17:15 He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous are both alike an abomination to the Lord.

Kyle was rightly declared not guilty of the charges brought against him. It was not injustice as there was no proof beyond a reasonable doubt that there was premeditation or intent. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together could see from the surveillance videos that he was being chased and defending himself.

As for skateboard dude who tried to kill him by smacking him upside the head with that weapon on wheels, the idiot grabbed the barrel of the gun while it was pointing point blank at his chest and yanked on the gun to pull it out from Kyle’s hands.

IMO, HE was responsible for his own death. IMO, Kyle did not intentionally pull the trigger, It probably got pulled when skateboard dude tried to pull it out of his hands while he was hanging on to it.

Something about stupid prizes.

I have no problem with her expressing her opinion. I have a huge problem with her presenting herself as a Christian.

Heretic! What a worthless, anti-justice statement!

In that same Bible she quotes people defended themselves all the time, ESPECIALLY the Jews against the unjust verdict caused by Haman. The king allowed them to defend themselves to counteract the verdict.

“””Glad I left that shipwreck a decade ago.”””

Ditto here. I just sent this letter to a cousin suggesting that we need to have our names scrubbed from the baptismal and confirmation records at the ECLA church where it happened.

Yes, there are, but Scripture is clear about women in positions of leadership like that, in 1 Timothy 2.

It seems like a higher percentage of women “pastors” are more prone to error, and whacked out statements, than men pastors are.

Good for you!

Like FReeper Honorary Serb I have found a wonderful, permanent home in the ancient faith of the Orthodox Church.

Lutherans haven’t been evangelical in centuries.

The ELCA is not. Most of us in the LCMS are.
