Sen. Rick Scott: GOP donors furious over infrastructure Republicans

Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) told his colleagues this week top party donors were "furious" with the number of Republicans — including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell — who voted for the bipartisan infrastructure bill, two sources familiar with his remarks tell Axios' Alayna Treene.

Why it matters: Scott chairs the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which relies on donors to help it elect candidates — and re-elect incumbents. The criticism highlighted how toxic the vote has become for the 19 Senate and 13 House Republicans who joined with Democrats to pass it.

McConnell is already being lambasted by former President Trump for his vote.

The donors complained to Scott it was foolish for any member of their party to help deliver a win to President Biden.

Scott was at a donor retreat this month when the House passed the $1.2 trillion measure, allowing Biden to sign it into law. He relayed the donors' reaction during the Senate Republicans' closed-door conference lunch Tuesday, the sources said.

What we're hearing: Scott delivered the news while giving a presentation regarding the latest internal polling from the NRSC.

He added that some donors had also been paying attention to Trump's statements, one of the sources said, which have included the former president calling the Republicans "RINOs" who "should be ashamed of themselves."

Scott's remarks landed a bit awkward, the second source told Axios, given many in the room not only voted for the infrastructure package but helped craft it.

If true this is a good sign. It means they're receiving criticism from all quarters.

This is not how they expected things to go.

Never give to the RNC. Only give money directly to a candidate.

the GOP made Xiden and XI pResident by
their vicious, lying, seditious, attacks
on the American ELECTED President.

the GOP —like their twin the DNC—
is EVIL and belongs in jail (or much worse)
for their treason, sedition and voter fraud.

I can see another use for those Biden “I did that!” stickers!

Next time you get something from the Republican party in the mail asking for a donation, fill it out with $0.00 in the area for the amount listed and put one of those BiteMe stickers next to it!

I don’t GAF what the big GOP donors think, even if they’re right in this case. Every Republican that supported this bill is only there because these donors put them there.

“This is not how they expected things to go.”

Most don’t care. McConnell, and here in Louisiana, Bill Cassidy, just won re-election. In their minds, they are ten feet tall and bullet-proof and both got money under the table. All they need to do to purify themselves is to publicly condemn Trump.

Typical Uniparty (R) ploy, “Look at me, I’m fighting a now lost battle for you, going against McConnell. I’m one of the good guys”. All this, while he marshals his resources to get Murkowski and their other senatorial fellow travelers re-elected. And the rubes chant, Go Rick!

So then should all the Republicans publicly state that they don’t want a single dollar of the infrastructure money spent in their state or district?

All our money should be routed through righteous President Trump’s platform. He is willing to use the hammer of financial leverage to reward and punish candidates accordingly. He won’t spare words for traitors and that strikes fear in the hearts of the cowardly. Maybe not the insane (Cheney) but most will keep in line.

I keep hearing people (mostly Rhinos) talk about we dont need a 3rd party.

I say the bullshit is over. We might have to swallow it for an election or two but it’s time.

Especially to give the Democrats a win merely days after their devastating losses in Virginia and New Jersey. That took the bad news right off the front pages. Idiots!
