Republican-led states have already added enough safe seats through redistricting to flip control of the House of Representatives in next year's midterm elections.
Republicans have already reconfigured enough districts to add five safe seats, which would be enough to flip the House majority if nothing else changes, according to a New York Times analysis. Though people of color drove most of the nation's population growth in the last census, some Republican states have aggressively packed voters of colors into single districts or failed to draw a single minority-majority district at all. Many of the new maps have already been challenged by lawsuits, although a 2019 Supreme Court decision that allows federal courts to review gerrymanders that appear to be based on race — but not those designed simply for partisan advantage — is likely complicate the legal challenges.
Republicans have already added a net total of five seats, according to the Times, after completing redistricting in Texas, Iowa, North Carolina and Montana. Though Democrats are poised to add safe seats for themselves in states like New York, Illinois and Oregon, Republicans have total control of the redistricting process in states that represent 187 congressional districts while Democrats control just 75. Some of the new maps build on existing districts that were already heavily gerrymandered by Republicans following the 2010 census.
The path back to a majority for Democrats if they lose in 2022 has to run through states like Texas, and they're just taking that off the table.
Other Republican-led states are expected to produce similarly gerrymandered maps. Ohio Republicans are pushing a map that would give them 13 of the state's 15 seats in the House, giving them 86% of seats even though Donald Trump won just just 53% of the vote in Ohio last year.

What would be good is 2/3 control of house and senate.
Counting on that would be crazy, but pipe dreams forget about election cheating.
In SALON??????........................
Apparently, Salon didn’t get the memo from Dominion. The Dems are safe.
Redistricting has been a pragmatic response against Rat-dominated machine politics and mob-rule (”real democracy”).
No seat is safe. They need to fight for every win like it’s their last chance to live.
That would explain why Democrats are retiring in droves.
Democrats and Rinos should be told go ahead and vote for the Marxist spending bill because it will be your last important vote anyway.
R vs D, OK.
What about the securing of RINOs in all of this?
It would be nice if Trump supporters were coming out ahead, but I doubt it.
Safe majority isn’t enough.
We need a solid >2/3rds.
Do not count chickens. Secondly, I really don’t want GOPers but Conservatives.
Increase our margin. And rid ourselves of as many RINOS and Never Trumpers
as we can.
Don’t count your chickens...or ballots....
The Gay Hair Stylists are joining the MSM in sending a personal message to the Gay Mafia.
“We are in deep trouble!”
And what makes anyone think that the Republicans will act boldly, and use whatever majority they may achieve? They’re gutless wonders.
The Senate is going to be interesting.
What good is it if they are all Assistant Democrats?
“It’s not the dog in the fight — it’s the fight in the dog.”
I don’t care how many people have an R after their name. I want people who will fight for America. RINOs don’t. I want solid people in the House and safe seats don’t guarantee that.
Just wait, the GOP will find a way to surrender to the Leftists anyway.
And in the meantime (up until January 2023, when the new congress takes office), they will cede as much power as they can so that their "majority" will be nothing more than a feckless rubber stamp for more Socialist policies.
The gop SUCKS and several of them should be swinging from lampposts along side of their 'friends across the aisle'.
They'll do exactly squat if they take the House and Senate. Zip, zero, nada
