CVS Pharmacy announced on Thursday that it would close roughly 900 stores in the next three years.
The company said in a statement it was "evaluating changes in population, consumer buying patterns and future health needs to ensure it has the right kinds of stores in the right locations for consumers and for the business."
"We remain focused on the competitive advantage provided by our presence in thousands of communities across the country, which complements our rapidly expanding digital presence," CEO Karen S. Lynch said in the statement.

They’re going broke printing out receipts (literally) 3ft long
The drug stores are places to get drugs and then pay ridiculously inflated prices for products you can get at a grocery store for a lot less. That’s why they are going down. And also there are way way way too many of them. There are like 8 within 2 miles of my house.
Add in online shopping and drug stores are going to fail in large numbers. Has nothing to do with wokeness and feral shoplifting. The shoplifting problems are localized to a few woke cities. Try shoplifting in Utah or Idaho if you don’t believe this.
Our drug stores kept regular hours. Never heard of middle of the night prescription. I was given meds in Emergency.
The current status for CVS is that all non-retail employees were mandated to be vaxxed by 10/31. Those of us who are not are terminated EOD 11/30. They are not mandating for much of the retail side of the business because they cannot keep breathing bodies upright in the stores to keep them open.
Only time will tell... But that's my guess.
Then thieves and the people in the black community who glorify thieves and criminals - will cry 'racism': 'Why can't WE have stores in OUR communities"?
And no one will give a damn. The whole 'cancel culture WOKE/commie/everyone's a racist crap is dying on the vine of awareness...
Walgreen’s has been closing stores near me, before and after Covid_CCP. That whole retail sector expanded too much into oversized retail spaces. I don’t get it, but I see old ladies there all the time buying edibles and other stuff at high prices. This goes for all these chain drugstores.
Be interesting to find out the location of the stores to be closed…..I bet that will be enlightening.
CVS built several new stores in our area over the past few years, with the one in our neighborhood directly across the street from a Walgreens. It will be interesting to see how many of these new stores are closed.
LOL….true 🤣
“So where are people going to get their mandatory Covid vaccinations. “
Publix gives vaccinations.
Now that CVS runs the pharmacys in Targets, they don’t need as many stores. And the average drug store today is just a convenience store that does prescriptions.
We had a couple of 24-hour pharmacies back in the Bay Area. If you ended up at an urgent care center late at night and needed a prescription filled, that’s where they sent you. A couple of the local Walgreens here in Central Texas are open until midnight.
I used to work for a big conglomerate back in the day.
We created huge spreadsheets and ranked the retail outlets by profitability.
The minuses in the profit column were in red ink—kinda easy to see down at the bottom of the chart.
Almost all of the red ink were in the “bad part of town” and had shop-lifting/employee theft issues.
It is kinda obvious how this will play out...
We have one close to us that is 24 hrs. Have used it during an emergency a couple of times.
CVS was building stores all over the place, probably without doing a thorough analysis of their viability. Obviously at times only because there was a Walgreens nearby.
After such a ballooning expansion, a contraction is natural.
And no one will give a damn. The whole ‘cancel culture WOKE/commie/everyone’s a racist crap is dying on the vine of awareness...
Not really. It’s just taking a breather because this is not an election year.
DG doesn’t sell Scripted drugs,
We don’t have a Target anywhere near us. We do have a CVS & Walgreens next to each other, though. So silly 🙃
Which Bay area?
There are going to be a lot of out of work Pharmacists.
Highly educated and helpful in my experience.
Sad.
Can anyone figure out how to redirect their talents?
