High-profile Execution looms in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Students at high schools across Oklahoma City walked out of their classes. Prayer vigils were held at the state Capitol, and barricades were erected outside the governor’s mansion. Even Baker Mayfield, quarterback for the NFL’s Cleveland Browns, weighed in on Oklahoma’s highest-profile execution in decades.

Julius Jones, 41, who has maintained his innocence for more than two decades, is scheduled to receive a lethal injection Thursday at the State Penitentiary in McAlester for the 1999 slaying of Paul Howell, a businessman in the affluent Oklahoma City suburb of Edmond.

Mayfield, a Heisman Trophy winner from the University of Oklahoma, is among several high-profile athletes and entertainers who have weighed in on Jones’ case, urging Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt to commute his sentence and spare his life.

“Yeah, it’s pretty rough, to be honest with you,” Mayfield said Wednesday, pausing and his eyes filling with tears. “That’s not something that’s easy to talk about. Been trying to get the facts stated and the truth to be told for a while.

“It’s a shame that it’s gotten this far, 24 hours away.”

I hope DNA evidence has conclusively proved he did it. And that he didn’t have a DA like Binger who withheld evidence.

High profile? Mississippi just executed a White man and it wasn’t “high profile.”

The article does not say a lot about DNA, but there was this:

Investigators also found the murder weapon wrapped in a bandana with Jones’ DNA in an attic space above his bedroom. Jones claims the murder weapon was placed there by the actual killer, who visited Jones’ house after Howell was shot.

So, how did the "real murderer" get it in the attic? Did he convince Jones to let him hide a murder weapon in his attic?

Paul Howell’s sister, Megan Tobey, testified before the board that she distinctly remembers seeing Jones shoot her brother in front of his two young daughters.

No sympathy for the victim or his children, of course, from the Hollyweird or sports celebrity crowd.

None whatsoever...

The gun was found in his bedroom in the ceiling, wrapped in his bandana, with his DNA on the weapon.

The victims sister said she saw him pull the trigger.

That is real evidence, not circumstantial at all.

I am not really sure how he failed to get a fair trial.

From the article:

The celebrities, race baiters and sports idiots believe the killer, of course, no sympathy for the victim or his two young daughters who witnessed Jones killing their father in front of them.

I believe the evidence. Someone asked me if I would have a clear conscience putting the needle into Jones’ arm myself. my answer is, “Yes, let me know if they need a volunteer”.

Jones murdered Paul Howell and his LEGAL death sentence should be carried out. It isn’t a punishment, it IS a penalty.

Here's the real story: The victim was a middle-class white guy, husband and father, killed in a car-jacking.

Family of Paul Howell speaks for the first time since his murder, addresses case against Julius Jones

EDMOND, Okla. (KFOR) – It is a case many are familiar with both locally and around the world.

In 1999, Paul Howell was only 45-years-old when he was shot and killed in his own driveway in front of his sister and two young daughters.

They were completely unaware they were being followed. Prosecutors say 19-year-old Julius Jones and his close friend, Christopher Jordan, had set out to steal a Suburban. They parked in the Braum’s parking lot and waited.

>>I am not really sure how he failed to get a fair trial.

By liberal’s definition, a fair trial is when black criminals get off, regardless of evidence. If they are convicted, that is all the proof you need that it wasn’t ‘fair’.
