New technology mandate in infrastructure bill could help prevent drunk driving deaths

A notable mandate tucked into President Biden’s bipartisan infrastructure bill could go a long way in making roads safer.

Part of the bill includes the HALT act and RIDE act, which require all new cars sold to be equipped with technology that can sense a drunk driver and keep them off the road. It could become a standard feature as early as 2026.

Exactly. Only registered Dims will be able to drive, or those who prove donating to the mark of the gay beast.

I would expect a Vax sensor as well.

Can’t have those un-vaxxed out there driving.. On public roads? They could kill you! Being all un-vaxxed and everything!

It’s all about safety!

Rapists will now be carrying a bottle of rubbing alcohol to douse a potential victim with, just in case the victim tries to escape with their vehicle.

No such passive technology exists for this.

Several automakers have cameras that detect drowsiness or lack of attentiveness. That tech will catch some drunk drivers.

But other than a breathalyzer, no such tech exists yet.

Never thought of that..

Or, if an abused woman tries to get away from her abuser. All the abuser needs to do is throw a drink at them to disable their means of escape.

I never drink alcohol, but I think this is a horrible idea. Talk about enabling big brother, but then again, anything so long as it’s for the kids.

Those things are broken all the time and have to be regularly calibrated. Would require someone coming to your house to fix while you are stranded as well.

Everyone is presumed guilty of drunk driving until they prove their innocence. If allowed to prevail, the Unconstitutional concept of guilt before innocence will be applied to every aspect of our lives not just cars. This is a just stepping stone that needs to be nipped in the bud.

My Lexus sends me “Take a Rest” warnings if I cross the lane lines too often. It can be really annoying when I’m driving on narrow Kentucky back roads with lost of hills and turns.

I could see them just turning the car OFF. That would be fun.

I’ve also seen a number of articles saying, this legislation will require a breathalyzer type check before the car will start.

At great cost to YOU. Tow companies are going to love this one.

Well said.

There is ZERO reason for this mandate. Those who need it already have to have it.

“Those who need it already have to have it.”

And used as punishment.

This is pre-punishment for a crime that has not been committed, with no probable cause, not proven, with no due process or conviction yet.

It is blatantly unconstitutional beyond any reasonable doubt.

Why would anyone in their right mind buy a car that does this?

“Why would anyone in their right mind buy a car that does this?”

Apparently it is already in the infrastructure bill that has been signed. So, where is the GOP regarding crap like this?

Seems a lot like wanting to mandate that a gun can only be used by its owner. What could go wrong?
