The closing statements are now done in the Rittenhouse trial, and the jury will now begin deliberations—although not until tomorrow morning. That means, of course, that we’ll be launching or VERDICT WATCH blog post in the morning at Legal Insurrection, so keep your eyes there for breaking news on a verdict.
And with that, let’s dive into the unpleasant task of noting the poor closing argument presented by the defense in this case. Defense Delivers Disappointingly Weak Closing Argument
This is an unpleasant task because on the legal merits Kyle Rittenhouse ought to be acquitted by a unanimous jury on every one of the five felony accounts against him, with the State having failed to prove provocation beyond a reasonable doubt and having failed to have disproven self-defense beyond a reasonable doubt.
And that may still happen. I hope it does. He deserves those acquittals.

Lots of doom and gloom stuff today on this.
Richards could hardly form a cogent sentence. He may be a lawyer, but he is not very bright and is a terrible speaker. Had I been on the jury I would have stood and shouted, “Get to the point!”
all the lawyers on the (reitka sp?) youtube live stream thought the closing was very strong. including Robert Barnes who worked with them as had been very critical of Richards
I haven’t finished listening to the closing arguments. I heard prosecution’s arguments which were admittedly compelling if you assume their story that Kyle pointed his gun which set off the entire chain of events. (I know that’s not what happened, but from a juror point of view it was somewhat compelling given that jurors can’t (or shouldn’t) Google the videos for themselves.)
I’m still in the middle of listening to the Defense’s first closing arguments, and thus far the lawyer sounds angry, but hasn’t thus far refuted the last minute magic FBI drone footage that was blown up to allegedly show Kyle pointing his rifle. I haven’t gotten to the “hocus pocus, out of focus” line yet.
As I understand it, prosecution’s and defense’s rebuttals are where a lot of the fireworks happen.
I watched some of it. He was scrolling through the videos. It seemed very meandering. Was not impressed with the portion I saw.
Quick verdict = complete acquittal
2 days or more = hung jury
No way he gets convicted.
Now just suppose one of the jurors was armed and took it as a threat. Or suppose the security in the room took the attorney out.
Nevertheless the da prosecuting attorney forgets...a gun was aimed at Rittenhouse. He actually proved the case for the defense. Rittenhouse acted in self-defense.
Heard and saw the whole thing (defense closing arg). Thought it was good and thorough. Not sure why the negativity.
I think that is what anyone with common sense would agree with.
All I know is two less Antifa thugs, and that’s a good thing.
The prosecution did one very bad thing that likely made the jury cringe...he picked up a gun and pointed it toward the jurors.
that was done on purpose so the jury could feel how it was like to have an AR-15 pointed at them
Any reaction they had would play into his argument about how that could “provoke” people
I listen to some excellent analysis last night. One of the attorneys thought he did an absolutely perfect job for his skill set. One of the things he mentioned was that he didn’t take the bait of the prosecutor and more importantly he did successfully made the other prosecutor put it up insulting the jury. He did what he needed to do and called out what I needed to call out and hit all the bases. We have to remember that this jury isn’t made up of utter fools. There are intelligent people in the world that do end up in juries.
What was a really sad point is when the judge had to instruct the jury to pay no mind to what the president said.
I pray this kid will get a fair verdict.
I thought it was good and the defense has facts on their side, so who cares if he’s not eloquent. God’s Hand is on Kyle and I’m trusting for an awesome turnout.
Kraus’s rebuttal was a train wreck.
What the leftist handlers wrote for the resident to say.
After Kyle put down these rabid dogs, notice how the burn, loot, murder thing started to fizz out? Its always fun till someone takes a dirt nap.
Rittenhouse did what he had to do and in so doing brought true closure to the families and boys that Rosenbaum terrorized and molested. After Rittenhouse killed him, these people got their first good night’s sleep knowing that this vile monster could never revisit them.
It is a deceptive headline to try and spin it 180 from the truth. Ht absolutely destroyed the prosecution by exposing their lies using the facts.
