NYPD cops settling into Florida nicely

Incoming New York City Mayor Eric Adams can’t get into office quickly enough when it comes to his pledge to restore law and order and beef up the NYPD. After eight long years of Bill de Blasio running the police into the ground, some of the officers aren’t waiting around to see if things are going to improve under Adams. Quite a few of them have continued to either take early retirement or simply quit the force and head out in search of greener pastures. And a bunch of them have already landed in a new home that’s far away from the Big Apple. In recent months, more than two dozen of New York’s finest have taken up residence – along with new employment – in Florida. And one city that’s benefitting from the exodus is Lakeland, where they launched an aggressive recruiting campaign to make room for the incoming NYPD officers. (NY Post)

More than a dozen NYPD cops have ditched the Big Apple to join the force in a small Florida city — part of a nationwide trend of disgruntled officers finding greener pastures in pro-police communities.

Lakeland — a community of 108,000 people 35 miles east of Tampa — mounted a social media campaign targeting NYC cops earlier this year, and in April dispatched a delegation to recruit in Times Square.

Fourteen former Finest moved to Lakeland in the past year — 12 of them wooed over the past two months thanks to the recruiting trip.

They probably vote red. Think of them being Staten Island’s boys (the only borough to vote red)

Some of the only yankee refugees I welcome in my free state of Florida.

They almost certainly do.

If you overlay the places with the highest concentration of NYPD officers with the 2016/2020 precinct maps, you find a very interesting pattern:

Like FL doesn’t already have enough cops.

New Yorkers have been settling into Miami sice the 1940’s. I heard one time that the summer population of Miami Beach was 50% from New York.

Going from NYC to civilization should be quite an improvement.

I hope.

But often blue state Republicans differ from red state Republicans. Although I’m a Republican in a blue state, I’m a lot more conservative than my fellow blue state Republicans around me. And I’m probably toward the center of FR’s polity.

By the way, if the purchase of the new house goes through, I’ll be a resident the Sunshine State myself by January.

It's not just the cops. A new plumber arrived from New York City. His work was excellent, but he was so grouchy, nasty, and generally unpleasant that my wife and I began referring to him as Mr. Grump.

After a few years in Flyover Country, he became downright...well...not so unpleasant--even developed a sense of humour--even became friendly, helpful, and not particularly defensive--and settled in like everybody else.

He was strongly opposed to the decadence, corruption, and degeneracy of the Left that has destroyed New York City and everywhere else the Left seizes power and which drove him into Flyover.

All it took was a few years among reasonable people to convert him from a hardened grump into a...well...reasonable person.

Heck yeah. No state income tax in FL.

The nice thing about most state jobs, is you pay into Social Security also, so you can draw a state pension along with Social Security.

All state and local cops are covered by the state retirement system in FL. and I think you are vested after 5 years. Someone could end up with a NY state pension, a FL state pension and Social Security if they play their cards right.

Just wait until they see a Citizen with a holster.

They will crap their bloomers and start screeching for Gun Safety.

They are NOT your friends.
They DON’T think like you do.
You are importing PROBLEMS galore.

And in the 1980s various anti-gun groups were trying to pass gun control laws in Florida hoping to have support from the New Yorkers moving there.

They failed.

NYC cops. Close to 70 percent are registered Republicans and more than 60 percent live on Long Island or in counties north of New York City, the analysis found. They seen how Dems destroy cities and don’t support them.

Lakeland is in Polk County, Sheriff Grady Judd’s turf. And he will welcome them with open arms.

Plus... Fox News reported that FL also paid $10k/yr more than NYC for the police.
