The logjam at California's ports for ships to wait is now as long as 17 days - a new record amid the continuing supply chain crisis just weeks before Black Friday and the holidays usually turn spending into overdrive..
There were as many as 83 ships at anchor and in a holding pattern outside ports in Los Angeles and Long Beach as of Friday night, officials said.
The nearly 17-day wait is double the wait time from just two months ago.

It is quite a sight. On a hill overlooking Newport Beach there appeared to be about 20 container ships at anchor.
The “Biden fines” are just adding to the bad inflation #’s (port fines passed on to the consumer).
those nasty ports probably cause global warming anyway!
hey biden, why not shut the ports down!? that will fix everything!
it did wonders for oil!
Of course. Many pundits predicted this would happen because of Biden's idiotic 'solution'.
The problem at California's docks is that there aren't enough trucks and drivers to pick up the unloaded shipping containers. Unloading even more of them simply increases the congestion of containers at the docks which further increases the waiting time for not only the ships, but also the trucks.
The main reason for truck and driver shortages is California's idiotic rules that won't allow any trucks on the roads older than three years of age. That's because California has exhaust emission rules that started three years ago that outlawed older trucks. It's too expensive for private owner-operators to retrofit their truck, so they simply avoid California. Now about the only trucks there have (unionized) drivers from large fleet owners, so there's a shortage that cannot be solved by any Democrat.
They need to immediately remove age restrictions on trucks picking up cargo at ports. I’m not sure how CA has been allowed to place these restrictions on interstate and international cargo.
They wanted those trucks blocked. Your mistake is thinking they want commerce. They do not. They want to destroy our way life
The real problem at the CA ports is that the different players in the marine shipping supply chain — ocean carriers, terminals, drayage trucks, shippers/receivers, chassis yards, etc. — are involved in a finely tuned process that has completely broken down mainly because of two factors: (1) a huge imbalance of trade that results in large numbers of empty containers with nowhere to go, and (2) insufficient availability of container chassis for the drayage trucks to use.
Item (2) is what is fouling up the trucking process. Some of these drivers must wait for hours at a terminal gate just because they can’t get a chassis, and when you’re paid by the load it’s not even worth showing up for work if you are going to get a single load out of a full day’s work.
If only he had, like, a Transportation Secretary or something, to take care of the thing.
Check out this AIS view.
All the green dots. Those are container ships waiting.
A LOT more than 20.

No offense, either. The unbalance of containers has been around for decades. It’s been growing the whole time. The second item is similar to what I described: stacking more containers around existing ones simply exacerbates driver and truck truck problems. Available drivers and tractors are simply waiting around for loads.
“While freighters languish in the waters off the Southern California coast, Port Of Oakland officials issued a plea Tuesday to shipping companies, asking them to reroute their vessels to the docks of their massive facility.”
The unions are the biggest contributor this. Deliberate slow down. Trucking problems are contributors too, but note that there are a lot of trucks lined up waiting to be filled.
The prob is the port.
In a sane world, a country run by a competent government would be lamenting the shortage of available shipping to export made in the USA goods.
President phoneman would have his EPA declare transoceanic importation of goods must be powered by sail to reduce our carbon footprint.
Buttplug is busy getting his hair and nails done
The nearly 17-day wait is double the wait time from just two months ago.
See how well things go when Biden helps out.
Wow, thanks for sharing the link.
The ships I saw were the cluster near Newport Beach. A very unusual sight for the area. Usually all you see are a few sail boats and the like.
Agreed. Why have the Ports of Seattle and Tacoma NOT seized the opportunities abandoned by California ports?
It’s just national malaise.
Maybe SlowJoe can get Jimmy Carter to bring out the old cardigan sweater and do a reprise malaise speech in front of the fake WH video set fireplace.
Trump could fix it.
